, This invention relates to a shoe straightener adapted to be placed on the outside of a shoe and underlying the sole. It is adapted for use in the manner of the shoe straightener shown in United States Patent No. 1,790,352, granted to me on the- 3rd day of February, 1931.

The present invention has for its objects the provision of a shoe straightener having any or all of the following features: a frame adjustable as to length to accommodate it to various shoe sizes; a frame having the toe end and rear end connected by a slip socket coupling enabling free adjusting movement as to length and frictionally locking by pressure'on the frame intermediate its ends tending to warp the frame; and aframe having a pressure post intermediate the ends thereof to exert pressure between the sole of the shoe and straightener frame thereby warping the latter and shortening the straight line distance between the ends.

These objects are accomplished by means of the embodiment of the invention illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Fig. 1 is a side elevation of a shoe with 'my improved straightener applied thereto;

The toe portion A may be, as shown, of

T shape having arms 5 and a leg 6 of rectangular cross section. At the ends of the arms 5 are hook shaped clamps 7 adapted to engage over the lip sole of the shoe at the toe end. The specific structure of the toe end forms no feature of the invention except that it has a leg 6.

The rear portion of the frame has a crotch portion 8 formed at its forward end with a socket for leg 6 and may be constructed by forming a channel with the leg having a snug sliding fit therein. The leg and channel form a slip socket. A tapped bore extends trans- 'ends closer and increasing the versely through the crotch portion 8 at the rear of the channel and mounted therein is a pressure post 9 having a threaded shank, a head 964 for engaging the sole of the shoe and a wing 92; for raising and lowering the post. Secured by ivot pins 10 to the crotch portion 8 are arms 11 having at their ends hook clamps 12 to be engaged over the lip sole adjacent the heel of the shoe. Aspring wire 13 of hair pin shape has its mid section passed around the shank of post 9 and its legs crossed and engaged in holes in arms 11. The wire 13 tends to swing arms 11 toward each other. In using the straightener, the toe end is sipped over the lip solo at the toe of the snoc. The rear portion is then moved to aline the clamps 13 with the portion of the sole to which it is to be secured. Due to the curvature of the shoe sole, the frame may be engaged with the sole intermediate its ends and by forcing the rear portion toward the sole, the clamps 12 may be engaged over the lip sole, the arms 11 being spread to diverge them suflicicntly. The resistance of the sole to being straightened tends to warp the frame and frictionally bind the slip socket coupling in its adjusted position. By raising the post 8 against the sole, the frame is bent or warped bringing the toe and rear grip on the sole. This further warping causes further binding of the slip socket.

What I claim is 1. An adjustable shoe straightener adapted to be placed on the outside of a shoe and to lie against the sole thereof comprising a frame having a toe portion with clamps to be engaged over the lip sole of a shoe at the toe end thereof, a leg extending rearwardly from said toe portion; a rear portion having a crotch portion, arms extending from said crotch portion and having clamps at their free ends for engagement over the lip sole adjacent the heel of the shoe, and an adjustable connection for said leg and said crotch portion whereby to change the length of said frame.

An adjustable shoe straightener adapted to be placed on the outside of a shoe and to lie against the sole thereof comprising a toe'end thereof, a leg extending rearwardly from said toe portion; arear portion having a crotch portion, arms extending from said crotch portion and having clamps at'their free ends for engagement over the lip sole adjacent the heel of the shoe; an adjustable connection for said legand said crotch portion whereby to change the length of said frame; and a post member threaded into said frameintermediate its ends for engagement with the sole of said shoe whereby to be adjusted to exert a bending pressure on said frame.

An adjustable shoe straightener adapted to beplaced on the outside of a shoe and to lie against the solethereof comprising a frame having a toe portion-with clamps to be engaged over the lip sole of a shoe at the toe end thereof; a legextending rearwardly from said toe portion, a-rear portion having crotch portion, arms pivotally monnted on said crotch portion to be swung to and from each other, resilient means tending toswing said arms toward each other, clamps on the free ends of-said arms for engagement over the lip soleadjacentthe heel of the shoe; an adjustable connection for said leg and said crotch portion whereby to change the length of said frame; and a post member threaded into said frame intermediate its ends for engagementwith the sole of said shoe whereby to be adjusted to exert a bending pressure on said frame and draw'the toe and rear ends of said frame toward each other.

An adjustable shoe straightener adapted to be placed on the outside of a shoe and to lie against the sole thereof comprising a frame havinga toe portion with clamps to be engaged over the lip sole of a shoe at the toe end thereof, a leg extending rearwardly from said toe portion; rear portion having a crotch portion,- arms extending from said crotch portion and having clamps at their free ends for engagement over the lip sole adjacent the heel of the shoe; and a slip socket connection for said-leg and the crotch end of said rear portion whereby pressure on said frame intermediate its toe and rear ends will bindthe slip socket and hold said toe portion and rear portion against movement in relation to one another.

An adjustable shoe straightener adapted to be placed on theoutside of a shoe and to lie against the sole thereof comprising a frame havin a toe ortion with clam as to be en D gaged. over the lip sole of a shoe at the toe end thereof, a leg extending rearwardly from said toe portion; a rear portion having a crotch portion, arms pivotally mounted on said crotch portion to be swung to and'from each other, resilient means tending to' swing said arms toward each other, clamps on the free ends of said arms for engagement over the lip sole adjacent the heel of the shoe; and aslip socket connection for said leg and said crotch portion whereby pressure on said frame intermediate its toe and rear ends will bind the slip socket and hold said toe portion and rear portion against movement in relation to one another.

An adjustable shoe straightener adapted to be placed on the outside of ashoe and to lie against the sole thereof comprising a frame having a toe portion with clamps to be engaged over the lip sole of a shoe at the toe end thereof, a leg extending rearwardly from said toe portion; a rear portion having a crotch portion, arms extending from said crotch portion and having clamps at their free ends for engagement over the lip s'oleadj acent the heel of the shoe; a slip socketcom nection for saidleg and thecrotchend of said rear portion whereby pressure on said frame intermediate its toe and rear ends will bind the slip socket and hold said toe portionand rear portion against movementin relation to one another; and a post member threaded into saidframe intermediate its ends for engagement with the soleof said shoe whereby tobe adjusted to exert a bending pressure on said frame.
