IMPROVEMENT IN SHIRT-DRYING APPARATUS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 190,605, dated May 8, 1877; application filed April 16, 1877.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JOHN MGOARTAN, of the city, county, and State ot'New York, have invented -a new and useful Improvement in Shirt-Drying Apparatus, of which the following is a specification:
Figure 1 is a top view of my improved apparatus illustrating its use. Fig. 2 is a front View of the same, partly in section. Fig. 3 is a detail section of. the same, taken through the line .1: 00, Fig. 1.

The object of thisinvention is to furnish an improvedapparatus for drying shirts after they havebeen starched, and givingthem the proper form, quickly and conveniently.
The invention consists in an improved apparatus for drying starched shirts, formed of I the hollow metal plate, the hollow metal cylinders, and the steam-pipes, as hereinafter fully described.
A represents a hollow metal plate, made of such a shape and size as to be passed into a shirt, and enable the front and bosom of the shirt to be spread out smoothly upon it. D are hollow metal cylinders, placed near the opposite sides of the forward end of the hollow plate A, and which are made of a proper size for the cufis ot' the shirt to be spread on" upon them. The hollow plate A and the hollow cylinders D are each provided with n steam-inlet pipe, B, through which steam is introduced from a boiler or other steam-gonerator, and a steam-outlet pipe, 0, to enable the said plate to be brought to and kept at a suitable temperature to dry the shirt and cuffs quickly, the starch in said shirts keeping them in place until dry. A number of the hollow plates A and hollow cylinders D are designed to be placed side by side. each cylinder serving for two adjacent plates.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- An improved apparatus for drying starched shirts, formed of the hollow metal plate A, the hollow metal cylinders D, and the steampipes B O, substantially as herein shown and described.
JOHN MGUARTAN.
