which will permit of the use therewith of clamps of varying size for accommodating jars varying in size and shape. y
The invention together with its numerous objects and advantages will be best understood from a study of the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein:
Figure 1` is a side elevational View of the holder, certain parts being broken away and showing a pair of clamping members arranged on the holder, one of the clamping members being suggested by broken lines.
Figure 2 is an elevational view taken at right angles to Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a plan view of the holder, the clamp being removed.
Figure 4 is a plan View of the clamp, certain parts being broken away and shown in section.
'Figure 5 is a View similar to Figure 4 with the clamp shown in open-position.
Figure 6 is a fragmentary sectional elevational view taken substantially on the line 6-6 of Figure 1, and
Figure '7 isa sectional viewtaken substantially on the line '7 7 of Figure 4.
Referring more in detail to the drawings it will be seen that the holder comprises a base 5 provide .i with a circular recess in the top thereof and arranged in the recess is a pad 6 of rubber or any other suitable elastic material. As shown in Figure 1 the wall of the recess is grooved as at 7 while on its peripheral edge the pad 6 is grooved as at 8 in a manner to 'cooperate with the gr'oove 7 for securing the pad 6 in an efficient manner within the recess of the base.
At the forward end thereof the base 5 is provided with a vertical substantial U-shaped clamp 9'adapted to engage over the edge of a table or similar support and screw threadedly engaged with the free leg of the clamp 9 is a clamping screw 10 adapted to be tightened against the underside of the table or support for securing the holder in fixed position.
At its rear end the base 5 is provided with a vertical post 11 which as shown in Figure 2 is somewhat tapered and has its smallest end disposed upwardly. The post 11 is provided with vertically spaced shoulders 12 and 13 for a purpose to be hereinafter made manifest. a
The. invention further comprehends the provision of two or more clamps 14 and a detail description of one clamp will teach the construction of the other. p
In the present instance the clamp 14 comprises a split ring like member 15 formed of resilient 65 metal, and on one end of the ring 15 formed by the split there is pivoted as at 16 the socket secl tion 17 of a sectional link, the other section of which is designated by the reference character 18 and includes a stem 19 screw threadedly en- 70 gaged with the socket 17 in the manner shown in Figure 6. The section 18 is of somewhat angular' construction and adjacent its free end is pivoted as at 20 between the legs 21 of a lever 22. 'At their free ends the legs 21 of lever 22 are pivoted to the 75 other end of the clamping member 15 as at 23. On one edge thereof the section 18 of the link is notched as. at 24 to engage the pivot pin 23 in a manner suggested in Figure 6 when the lever is swung from the position shown in Figure .-5 to the 30 closed position shown in Figure 6 and secure the clamping member 15 in closed or contracted posi'- tion about the article embraced thereby.
-Intermediate its ends theclamping ring 15 has secured thereto in any suitable manner a plate 25 provided with a sleeve 26 the bore of which is non-circular. The sleeve 26 is adapted to engage the post 11 in the manner shown v1n the drawings and extending laterally from one side of the sleeve 26 is an arcuate arm 27 which inter- 90 mediate its ends is secured to4 clamping member 15 through the medium of a rivet 28 and as suggested in Figure 4. As is apparent the end portion of the-ring 15 secured to the arm 127 `wi1l remain somewhat stationary, and the other end portion of the clamp 15 will move toward the stationary end thereof upon the shifting of the lever 21 from the position shown in Figure 5 to the position shown in Figure 4 for contracting the clamp ring 15 about the jar.I 100 For the clamp ring 15 there is provided a split ring like liner or internal pad 29 and the pad 29 is formed of rubber orother suitable yieldable .and elastic material. On its outer face the pad 29 is provided with a groove 30 to receive the 105 ring 15 in a manner clearly shown in Figure '7.
As suggested in Figure 1 one of the clamps will have the ring part 15 thereof of slightly smaller diameter than the other of the clamps, and of course the sleeve 26 of the said one clamp 110 will have its bore slightly larger than the bore of the sleeve associated with the larger clamp. In this connection it will be noted that the smaller clamp, the same being especially adapted for use with jars of pint o r quart sizes will have its sleeve 26 engaged with the lowermost shoulder 12, while the larger clamp, when used will have its sleeve 26 engaged with the uppermost shoulder 13, the larger clamp being adapted for use with two-quart jars, which of course are larger and of greater length than one-quart jars or pint jars. It is also of course to be understood that only one clamp need be used at the same time.
In actual practice the base 5 is first clamped to a suitable support after which, the clamp 14, being normally in open position', or in the position shown in Figure 5, the jar to be secured on the holder is passed downwardly through the clamp for rest on the pad 6 of the baser5. The lever 22 is then swung from the position shown in Figure 5 to the position shown in Figure 4 which will of course result in a contraction of the ring 15 of the clamp about the jar, and the notch 24 engaging the bolt 23 `will of course serve to secure the clamping ring 15 in contracted or closed condition about the jar.
Even though I have herein shown and described the preferred embodiment of the invention, itis to be understood that the same is susceptible of further changes, modications and improvements coming within the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is: 1 Y 1. In a device of the character described, a base, provided with means for securing it to a support, a standard rising from the base and provided with a shoulder, and a clamping member provided with a sleeve slidably engageable with the standard and adapted to rest on said shoulder for supporting the clamp in operative position to the base.
2. In a device of the character described, a base provided adjacent one end with means for clamping it in ilat engagement with a support, a standard rising from a relatively opposite end of the base, said standard being non-circular in cross section and provided intermediate its ends with a shoulder, and a clamp including a contractible split ring, a sleeve secured to the ring and having a non-circular bore through which said standard extends, and means engaged with the ends of the ring for contracting it, and securing it in contracted condition.

A jar holder comprising a base, a clamp provided on the base for securing it to a support, said base having a recess in the top thereof, a pad fitted within said recess, a standard rising from said base, a clamp slidably engaged with said standard and including a split contractible ring, means engaged with the end of the ring for securing it in contracted condition, and a lining on the inner face of said ring.

In a holder of the class described, a base, means for securing the base to a support, a standard rising from the base, a plate member provided with a sleeve slidably engaging said standard, means on the standard engaging the sleeve for supporting the latter intermediate the ends o! the standard, a split clamping ring secured to said plate, a lever pivotally connected with one end of said ring, an adjustable link pivotally connected at one end with the other end of said ring, and at its other end pivotally connected with said lever, said link adjacent the last named end thereof being provided with means engageable with the pivot of said lever for securing the ring in contracted position.
