Description
H. IMHOP. Stove-Pipe Expander and Uontraotor.
No.198,'8 86. Patented Jan. 1,1878.
M. PETERS, FHDTO-LITHDGRAPHER. WA5HINGTON. D c.
UNITED STATES PATENT ()FFIGE.
HENRY IMHOF, or LOOKPORT, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN STOVE-PIPE EXPANDERS AND CONTRACTORS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 198,886, dated January 1, 1878 application filed November 17, 1877.
struction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
My invention relates to expanding and contracting stove-pipes; and it consists in a hollow truncated cone, one end of which is used for expanding and the other end for contracting stove-pipes, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth. a
The annexed drawing, to which reference is made, fully illustrates my invention.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a perspective view of my stove-pipe expanding and contracting device. Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the same, showing its application for contracting one end of a stove-pipe. Fig. 3 is an external view of the same, showing its application for expanding the end of a stove-pipe.
A represents a hollow truncated cone, of any suitable dimensions, and made of sheet metal or other material that will an wer the purpose for which it is intended.
This device is used for expanding and contracting the ends of stove-pipes in the follow ing manner: The smaller end of the cone is inserted in the end of the stove-pipe, and forced into the same, whereby, of course, the stovepipe may be more or less expanded at that point, as re'quired. For contracting the end of the stove-pipe it is inserted in the larger end of the cone, and the cone forced over the same, which contracts the pipe sufficiently to fit in another pipe.
It is evident that if the implement were not truncated it would be adapted for use in the same manner.
The invention is simple, cheap, and admirably adapted to be used in putting up stovepipe where the sections of pipe do not fit.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isa A conical implement, A, for the purpose of contracting and expanding the ends of stovepipes, substantially in the manner as hereinbefore set forth.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.

DANL. WILLARD, REUBEN OARRoLL'.
