Definitions
- My invention relates to improvements in photographic roll-films, and more particularly in rollfi1ms in which a strip of gummed paper or the like is attached to the end of the protective backing strip of the sensitized film which is located at the inner end of the film wound on the film delivering spool, the said gummed strip being used for fixing the exposed film in position on the film receiving spool.
- the object of the improvements is to provide a roll-film in which the end of the backing strip having the gummed strip of paper attached ther'eto may be readily torn off, so that there is no danger of the strip slipping from the hand of the photographer, and with this object in view my invention consists in providing the end of the backing strip with a weakened line disposed transversely of the gummed strip of paper and permitting the end of the backing strip to be readily torn off or folded inwardly so as to expose the gummed strip of paper.
- FIG. 1 shows the tail or inner end of the backing strip and a strip of gummed paper attached thereto
- Fig. 2 is a sectional elevation showing the film receiving spool having the film and most of the backing strip wound thereon, the outer end of the backing strip being torn off to expose the gummed strip.
- a protective backing strip 1 is attached in the usual per or other suitable material is'attached at 3,
- the said strip being coated at its inner side with a suitable adhesive, and lying loose with its outer portion on the backing strip.
- the end of the backing strip is provided with a weakened, perforated or scored line 5 disposed transversely of and crossing the strip 4 and permitting the end of the backing strip to be readily torn off for exposing the gummed surface of the strip 4.
- Fig. 2 I have shown the film receiving spool 7 having the exposed film and most of the backing strip I wound thereon and also having the end of the outer end of the backing strip torn ofi along the weakened line 5, so that the end of the gummed strip of paper 4 is exposed and may be readily fixed to the outer convolution of the backing strip.
- a roll-film comprising a sensitive strip, a strip of protective backing material of greater length than said sensitive strip, to which said sensitive strip is attached, the tail end of said backing strip, beyond the end of said sensitive strip, being tapered to form a spool-engaging tongue, the said backing strip being weakened on a transverse line spaced at an interval forward of the tip of such tapered tongue, and a gummed securing strip'attached at one end'to said backing strip at a point forward of such weakened line and extending free and unsecured rearwardly from such point of attachment beyond the weakened line and terminating short of the tail end of the backing strip, whereby when the backing strip with the sensitive strip carried by it has been coiled upon a film-receiving spool and the end of the tapered tongue has been torn away along such weakened line the gummed strip may serve to secure the coil.
