Thisinvention relates` to certain new and useful improvements in razorsA and particularly to the types known generally in the art, as` safety razors.
In accordance with the present invention a safety razor is provided. wherein the guard and cap are flexible, so as to permit ofuse ofthe razor with the parts in either a flat or longitudinally curved condition. n
Eu'rther'in accordance with the present inven tion a razor of the'rcharacterabov'e mentioned is provided having lsimple and eflcient meansy for securing the guard,`cap, and blade clamped therebetween, at the desired curvature.
The invention together with'A `its objectsl and advantages will be bestunderstood from a Astudy of the following description .taken in connec tion with the accompanying drawing wherein:
Figure 1 is a top plan view of the razor with the blade removed.
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view through the razor with the guard, cap and blade ina longitudinally curved condition.
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken substantially on theline 3-3 of Figurev 2.. Y,
Figure 4 is a perspective view of the cap and Figure 5 is a perspective View of a yoke or substantially U-shaped member to be hereinafter more fully referred to.
Figure 6 is a plan view of the blade.
Referring to the drawing'by reference numerals it will be seen that the razor comprises a substantially hollow handle 6, .a 'guard member teeth 8 while the end edges of the member 1 are thickened at opposite sides of the longitudinal vmedian to provide combined guards and abutments 9.
The cap I0 as clearly shown in Figure 4 is of rectangular, skeleton frame structure and is formed of spring metal. Intermediate its ends the cap I!) is provided with a cross bar I I and secured thereto, in any suitable manner, preferably by being integral therewith, is a threaded pin I2 that is accommodated in a suitable opening in the guard 'I and is adaptedl to be screwed into the threaded end I5 of the handle 6 asy shown in Figure 2 for securing the razor blade I6 and guard 'I in position. Itwill be noted that theV ends of the cap I0 abut the parts 9 of the guard 8 as shown clearly in Figure 1.
For flexing the guard 'I, blade I6, and cap I0 there is provided a substantially U-shapedA or lowing manner; the stemv I yoke member I 1y passed through the opening in the yokefmember Il `that has the legs thereof at the free end accommodated in slots ,I8 provided inthe guard 1, and terminating in hooks yI9 that en gagevthe ends of the cap Il] and are accom- `modated between the abutments 9 .in a manner 'v5' clearly shown in Figures 1 and 2.
Intermediate its ends rthe handle 6 is provided on opposite sides thereof with slots 20 to accommodate the member I 'I Aas shown in Figure 2. At the closed end thereof member I I is also rengaged ina transverse opening provided in a. threaded stem 2ljthat is accommodated within the handle 6 and is threaded for engagement with the screw threaded portion 22 of the handle when the yoke Ilisino-t to be used, as when a substantiallyyflat razor is desired. For the stemy 2| there iis provideda suitable knob 23 that is screw threaded on the outer end of the stem as shown. Y In actual practice the blade I6 is clamped between the guard 1 and the cap I0, thethreaded stem `I2 ofthe cap I0 being screwed into the threaded end I5 of the handle 6 as shown and asy thought to be readily apparent to those skilled in the art. When the razor is to beused with the blade in a substantially flat condition, the yoke member I'Ir is dispensed with; the knob. 23 is unscrewed from the stem 2l, and the stem 2I is then inserted longitudinally into thehandle 6 and the inner end of the stem screwed into engagement with 'the threads 22 of the handle 6 tor such an extent that preferably the outer or free end of the stem4 2l projects a slight distance beyond the outer or free end of the handle 6. y The knob 23 is then threaded onto the projecting end of the stem 2l and the parts are in position for using the razor inthe usual manner. y
When it is desired to use the razor with the blade IB curved Athe member I'I is used in the fol 2l is unscrewed, the
stem and the slot 2i! of the handle, after which the legs ofy the yoke are passed through the slots l in the guard and blade, and the hooks I9 thereof engaged with the ends of the cap and guard as shown. 'Ihen by turning the knob 23 in a clockwise direction'and while in abutting engagement with the free ends of the handle 6, the stem 2| is caused to move axially of the handle toward the free end thereof so as to exert a. tension on the 50 yoke and thereby cause the guard, blade and cap to ex longitudinally and assume the shape and position shown in Figure 2. It will be apparent that a razor of this character can be readily and easily cleaned andis 55 u therefore sanitary,
what I handle and interengaging means on the cap and handle for securing the cap and guard on one end of the handle with a blade clamped therebetween, said cap and guard being of flexible material, a threaded stem working in the handle and provided with a transverse opening, and said handle being provided with longitudinal slots, a flexible yoke member extending through the opening into the stem and the slots in the handle and havingleg portions provided at their ends to engage the end portions of the guard and cap, and a knob threaded on one end of the stem and in abutting engagement with the adjacent end of the handle for causing the stem to move axially of the handle upon rotation of the knob to thereby tension the yoke and secure the cap, guard and blade in longitudinally curved condition.
2. A safety razor comprising a cap, a guard, a handle and interengaging means on the cap and handle for securing the cap and guard on one end of the handle with a blade clampedV therebetween, said cap and guard being of flexible material, a threaded stem working in the handle and provided with a transverse opening, and said handle being provided with longitudinal slots, a flexible yoke member extending through the opening into the stem and the slots in the handle and having leg portions provided at their ends to engage the end portions of the guard and cap, and a knob threaded on one end of the stem and in abutting engagement with the adjacent end of the handle for causing the stem to move axially of the handle upon rotation of the knob to thereby tension the yoke and secure the cap, longitudinally curved condition, said handle having an internal portion provided with screw threads for screw threaded engagement with the stem to retain the latter within the handle when the yoke is not in use.
3. A razor comprising flexible guard and cap members, a handle, interengaging means on the cap and handle for securing the cap, guard and a blade clamped therebetween in position on one end of the handle, said handle being hollow, a stem working in the handle, means engaged with the stem for adjusting l handle, and a member engaged with the stem and theopposite end portions of the guard and cap for flexing the latter in the direction of their longitudinal median and to hold the guard, cap and blade in longitudinally curved condition.
4. A safety razor for use either as a flat razor or as a longitudinally curved razor, optionally, and comprising a handle, flexible guard and cap members, means for securing the guard and cap members on one end of the handle with a blade clamped therebetween, a vmember axially adjustable relative to the handle, and means engageable with said member and the ends of the guard and cap members for flexing the same upon adjust-ment of said member and for securing the guard and cap members at the desired curvature.
