Description
Sept 10, 1935. H. BRENNER 2,014,308
TROUSERS PRESS Original Filed Dec. 14, 1932 l MI I Patented Sept. 10, 1935 UNITED STATES TROUSERS PRESS Herbert Brenner, Baden-Baden, Germany Application December 14, 1932, Serial No. 647,183
Renewed February November 12, 1932 2 Claims.
This invention relates to a trousers press according to patent application Ser. No. 559,813 filed August 28th, 1931, and has for its object to improve the construction so that the press can be 5 also employed for other correspondingly con-.
structed presses of similar type.
The object of the invention is to facilitate the separation and reinsertion of the two press frames by rigidly mounting the bolts, by means of which the frames are pressed together with the aid of screw nuts, on a common rotatable rod so that, when one bolt is turned, the rod efiects the simultaneous turning of the other bolts. The bolts therefore do not, as heretofore, extend individually and exchangeably through holes but are fixed on the rotatable rod, and in the outer edges of the two plates slots are arranged, into which the bolts can be oscillated. According to a further feature of the invention the bearings, in which the rods carrying the bolts are journalled, form at the same time feet on which the lower plate rests when the press is in use; herefrom the advantage is derived that the lower plate no longer lies fiat on the table, chair or the like, but is slightly raised, so that between the press and the table, chair or the like there is a space which allows the passage of air so that a rapid drying of any moistened portions is attained.
The invention therefore consists in that on one of the two plates feet are provided which serve as bearings for the oscillatable bolts interconnected by rods arranged one on each side of the plates.
An embodiment of the invention is illustrated by way of example in the accompanying drawing in which:
Fig. 1 shows one side of the press in part side elevation.
Fig. 2 is a bottom plan view of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a top plan view of Fig. l.
The bolts in the upper portion of the drawing are shown in open position, whereas those in the lower portion are in closed position.
The longitudinal side of the press not illustrated may be constructed in a similar manner to that illustrated or may be provided with hinges.
The press consists of an upper frame-shaped plate a, and of a similar lower plate b, the two plates being connected along one longitudinal side by means of hinges. The other longitudinal edge of both plates a, b is provided with slots and the lower frame plate I) carries bearing brackets 11, one on each side of each slot. A rod ,1 extends through all the brackets 11 and is rotatable therein. Bolts g are rigidly connected to the rod ,1 by feet arranged one between each pair of brackets (1', each bolt carrying a washer i and a wing nut 7c.
After a pair of ironed trousers has been placed on the lower frame plate b and the plate a lowered In Germany thereon, one of the screw bolts g is swung into its two coordinate slots, the other screw bolts being simultaneously oscillated into their coordinate slots by means of the rod If the wing nuts R: are
then tightened, the two frame plates d, b are gradually pressed together, causing a pressing of the inserted trousers. The brackets 11 may serve as feet, as shown in Fig. 1, when the press is placed on a flat surface.
In order to remove the trousers, it is only necessary to unscrew the nuts 70 and oscillate one of the screw bolts, thereby at the same time disengaging the other bolts so that the upper frame plate can be removed.
In the example illustrated only one longitudi- 15 nal side of each frame plate has slots and this longitudinal side of the lower frame plate is provided with bearing brackets, a rod and the like. However, both longitudinal sides of the frame plates may be similarly constructed without departing from the scope of the invention and in this instance the hinges will be omitted.
I claim:-
1. A trousers press composed of two press frames adapted to be placed one on the other, comprising in combination an upper and a lower plate each having registering slots along one longitudinal edge, bearing brackets on one of said plates arranged one on each side of each slot to form pairs, a rod extending through all of said brackets and rotatable therein, screw bolts fixed on said rod one between each pair of brackets, each of said bolts on being oscillated into its coordinate slots in said plates adapted to simultaneously oscillate the other bolts into their respective slots through the intermediary of said rod, and wing nuts one on each of said screw bolts adapted to press together said plates after said bolts have been swung into the slots in said plates.
2. A trousers press composed of two press frames adapted to be placed one on the other, comprising in combination an upper and a lower plate each having registering slots along each longitudinal edge, bearing brackets on one of said plates arranged one on each side of each slot to form pairs, a rod extending through all of said brackets and rotatable therein, screw bolts fixed on said rod one between each pair of brackets, each of said bolts on being oscillated into its coordinate slots in said plates adapted to simultaneously oscillate the other bolts into their respective slots through the intermediary of said rod, and wing nuts one on each of said screw bolts adapted to press together said plates after said bolts have been swung into the slots in said plates.
