UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HARRY C. CUSHING, OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA, ASSIGNOR TO EDINGTON DETRICK, OF SAME PLACE.
IM PROVEMENT IN TENT-POLE S.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 208,158, dated September 17, 1878 {application filed April 29, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARRY O. CUSHING, of the city and county of San Francisco, and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Tent- Poles, of which the following is a specification:
The object I have in view is to produce an adjustable tent-pole which, while capable of being quickly and easily adjusted, will not be so heavy and bulky as those now in use, and can be reduced to a more compact form for transportation and my invention therein consists in constructing the pole of two semicylindrical pieces held with their flat sides together by ferrules, and adjusted by means of a strap and buckle.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a view of the pole extended, and Fig. 2 a View of the same closed.
The two sections E E of the pole are constructed of half -round pieces, sliding upon each other, and held with their fiat faces in contact by means of ferrules e e, one secured rigidly to each section and sliding over the other section.
To keep the two sections at any required distance apart, the strap and buckle F are employed, the strap being secured to the end of one section, or the ferrule secured to that end and the buckle attached to the end of the other section or the ferrule.
When not required for use or packed for transportation, the pole is reduced in length by sliding the two parts upon each other into the position shown in Fig. 2.
lVhat I claim as my invention is- The adjustable tent-pole constructed of two semi-cylindrical pieces, E E, held together by ferrules c e, and adjusted by means of the strap and buckle F, substantially as described and shown.
In testimony th atIclaim the foregoing Ihave hereunto set my hand and seal this 12th day of April, 1878.
