Description

,WTV
UNITEDSTATES PATENT OFFICE.
CYRUS R. FUREY, OF LOGANSPORT, INDIANA.
IMPROVEMENT IN SHOWER-BATHS.
Spccication forming part ofLettcrs Patent No. 208,384, dated September 2.4, 1878; application filed August l0, 1878.
To all 107mm it may concern.-
Be it known that I, CYRUs It. FUREY, of Logansport, in the county of Cass and State of Indiana, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Shower-Baths; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specication, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure l of the drawings is arepresentation of a side View of my bath-tub, and Fig. 2 is a vertical central sectional view ofthe same.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a showerbath, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
The annexed drawing, to which referenceis made, fully illustrates my invention.
A represents a tub of any suitable dimensions, to opposite sides of which are secured two posts or standards, B B, connected at their upper ends by a cross-bar, B. The posts B B are slotted vertically from their upper ends downward for a suitable distance, and in said slots are inserted wings a a., projecting from opposite sides of the reservoir C. This reservoir is provided with a four-armed bail, D, in the center of which is attached a cord, b, said cord passing around pulleys el d down to a windlass, E, attached to one of the posts B. The bottom ofthe reservoir Gis funnel-shaped, and in the center thereof is a valve, F, to be raised by a cord, e, or otherwise. Below the valve F, from the outlet of the reservoir, extend two inclined pipes, G, each of which is provided with a rose-head, H. The wings or guides a of the reservoir, passing through the slots in the posts B, allow the reservoir to play from side to side without locking as it is being'raised or lowered, thus permitting the use of the bath upon au uneven iioor or unequal ground.
I is the curtain arranged inside the post B, and distended at the top by a spring-wire, h. This may be of' any size, and in a full-sized bath small hooks are provided inside of the top rim of thetub, to which the curtain may be fastened, and all` scattering of water thus prevented.
By the arrangement of the rose-heads the bath can be used without wetting the head ot' the bather, which, with ladies, is a matter of no small consideration.
It may also be used, with a curtain provided for the purpose, for a vapor-bath in connection with the shower-bath. The bather, standing between the rose-heads, with the curtain fastened around his throat at one aperture and around the neck of the reservoir at another, can first take the vapor-bath, and then, letting on the shower of spray with the water at any temperature, can complete the wash as thoroughly as desired.
The cord b is preferably to be connected to a pin, and this pin passed through the center of the four-armed bail D and fastened by a key underneath, so that the reservoir can easily be detached and attached, as required.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a shower-bath, the combination of the reservoir C, suspended by the centrally-depending cord b, and provided with the guides a a working in the slotted uprights B B, to permit said reservoir G to sway from side to side and always occupy a horizontal position, substantially as set forth. y
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
CYRUS R. FUREY.
