3 Claims.
The invention relates to. a feeder and waterer and more especially to a poultry feeding and watering device.
An object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character, wherein a support is aiforded concentrically to a pan for containing feed or water and is possessed of sufiicient strength to resist the load or pressure of the pan, the. support being of novel construction and is carried by legs which with the support constitute a stand for the carrying of the pan.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character, which is simple in construction, thoroughly reliable and effective in operation, readily portable, comparatively light in weight yet strong, durable, and inexpensive to manufacture.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, which discloses the preferred, embodiment of the invention and pointed out in the claims hereunto appended.
In the accompanying drawing:
Figure 1 is a side elevation partly in section of the device constructed in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 is a top plan view with the pan removed.
Figure 3 is an enlarged fragmentary bottom plan view looking toward the top of the stand.
Figure 4 is a sectional view on the line 4-4 of Figure 3 looking in the direction of the arrows.
Figure 5 is a sectional view on the line 5-5 of Figure 3 looking in the direction of the arrows.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawing.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the device constituting the present invention comprises a wheel shaped open top A involving what may be termed a rim I composed of a group or series of wood sectors II, these being disposed with their ends next to each other in abutting relation and. such sectors are preferably wider at their intermediate portions than at their ends, being cut from wood planks through the use of a special pattern for economy in labor and avoiding undue waste of material in the procuring of the required number of sectors for the completing of the support on erecting the same. The sectors II when abutting each other end to end afford a polygonal or otherwise shaped open center to the top while underlying this top is a metal frame I2 made from strap iron which is weldedor otherwise made secure to vertical legs I3 for supporting the wheel shaped top. These legs I3 are uniformly spaced from each other and their lower ends are adapted to rest upon a foundation or floor within an enclosure for poultry or the like. Welded or otherwise made secure to the lower ends of the said legs is a bottom iron hoop or band their uniformly spaced relation to each other. The legs I3 are made from strap iron.
At the center of the open center of the top A is. in this instance a ring I although it may be 7 otherwise shaped and has welded or otherwise secured to the outer side'thereoi lateral'o'r; raidially projected arms I6 which are joined together in pairs preferably by welding or otherwise and these pairs of arms are evenly spaced from each other and radiate toward the inner periphery of the rim Ill. The outer end of one arm I6 of each pair is twisted at I! to effect a horizontal terminal I8. The terminals I8 in their radial disposition are disposed at the under side of the rim I0 and are made secure in place by staples I9 which straddle said terminals and are driven into the rim I0. The other arm of each pair is provided with a downturned attaching ear welded or otherwise secured to an adjacent leg I3 at the inner side thereof and at its upper end, the frame I2 is disposed against the outer sides of the legs I3 and welded or otherwise secured thereto.
The pairs of arms I6 next to the ring I5 through the intermediate connecting portions 2| are welded or otherwise made fast to said ring I5.
Underlying the top A at those joints between the sectors I I of the rim are saddling strap iron plates 22, these are secured in place by staples 23 straddling said plates and driven into the rim I0.
The plates 22 are formed with downwardly struck loop portions 24 afiording seats for the frame I2 The legs I3 have secured thereto diagonal braces 25 which are formed with upper protruded beveled ends 26 welded or otherwise made secure to the arms I6 so that these ends 26 project slightly above the plane of the arms for eifecting abutments for a removable pan 2'! whereby the latter will be held seated upon the said arms I6 at the center of the center opening in the top A. This pan 27 is adapted to accommodate water or feed for poultry. It may be I4 thus holding these legs in found desirable to fit around the ring IS a lamp house 28 for an oil burning lamp 29 and the wall of this lamp house 28 is preferably welded or otherwise secured to the ring and is of a kind to eliminate the necessity of a shade for the burner of the lamp. Thus the contents of the pan 2'! can be readily heated by the use of the lamp should it be found desirable.
In the use of the device the poultry when seeking feed or water will light onto the top A and when perched thereon can have convenient access to the pan 21 for feeding or watering purposes. I
By reason of the construction of the device a support isafiorded concentric to a pan and is possessed of sufficient strength to resist the load or pressure of the said pan and its contents.
What is claimed is:
1. A device of the character described comprising a sectional rim forming a support having a center opening, a frame beneath the rim, vertical legssecured to the frame in spaced relation to each other, radial arms having flattened outer ends disposed at the open center of said rim, the flattened ends being in underlying relation to the rim, certain of the flat ends being turned to provide depending ears secured to the legs, means uniting the arms together at the open center of the rim in their radially disposed relation to each other, a hoop fixed to the legs near their lower ends, and a pan removably resting upon the arms and held within the rim.
2. A device of the character described comprising a sectional rim forming a support having a center opening, a frame beneath the rim, ver-' tical legs secured to the frame in spaced relation to each other, radial arms having flattened outer ends disposed at the open center of said rim, the flattened ends being in underlying relation to the rim, certain of the fiat ends being turned to provide depending ears secured to the legs, means uniting the arms together at the open center of the rim in their radially disposed relation to each other, a hoop fixed to the legs near their lower ends, a pan removably resting upon the arms and held within the rim, and means connected with the arms to form abutments for the pan and holding the same centered with respect to the open center of said rim.
3. A device of the character described com- .prising a sectional rim forming a support having a center opening, a frame beneath the rim, vertical legs secured to the frame in spaced relation to each other, radial arms having flattened outer ends disposed at the open center of said rim, the flattened ends being in underlying relaspect to the open center of said rim, plates straddling certain of the joints between the sections of the rim and secured to said sections, and loops formed in the saidrplates and accommodating the frame for securing the latter to the rim.
