MOTOR DRIVEN SHAVING DEVICE Fild Aug. so, 19:58
TTTT RNEYS w. wHlTToN 21v 99,768 i mama Mij-1,1940 I l2,199,768 i UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE I Moron nmvEN' snAvrNG DEvrcE Wilfred J. whims, gms city, staten- Island,
Application 1mm 30.1938.' serial No. 227.510 1 oliim. (ci. ca -43) substantiallyl triangular section and increasing in thickness towards the invention relates to-the art of shaving devices and more particularly to a motor driven shaving device.'
One of the principal objects of my invention is to provide a shaving device equipped with a rotary blade or cutter together with shielding means adapted for coaction with the cutter and which is so constructed and arranged as to add to the safety of the device and also eifect in producing a clean. close shave.
Another object of my invention is to provide a device of the above described character which can be easily and quickly cleaned so that the usef.u1 life of the device canbe extended for a long period.
A further object of my invention is to provide a device of the above described character which is simple in construction, durable in use, etlicient in operation and econimical inA manufacture.
Other objects and advantages will belapparent from the following description, appendedclaim and annexed drawing.
Referring to the drawing wherein like reference characters designate like parts throughout the several views:
Figure 1 is.-.a side elevation vl-of my invention.
Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional view thereof on an enlarged scale.
Figure 3 is an end elevation of the shield 'and cutter, illustrating the same` detached from the motor. f
Figure i is a sectional 4 4 of Figure 2.
In practicing my invention I provide a motor ordinary construction equipped ,with a housview taken on the, line ing in the form of a handle adapted tobe readilyl held in the palm of the' hand. One 'end of said housing is equipped with a forwardly extending section 5, the' latter being exteriorly threaded and receiving thereon the threaded base end of a cone-shaped guard or shield I. The guard or shield I is of a hollow construction and is fashioned on the outerface thereof with a longitudinally extending rib configuration in cross base end ofsaid guard as clearly illustrated in Figure 2 The ri 1 is romanica a plurality offspaa casing. Said disk I2 is formed with a centrally v tion l and the cutter from the shaft 9 to eifect 1, the latter being of av guardon the opposite side of the latter relative v to said -rib and thereby provide a plurality of spaced teeth 8. Extending from themotor casing 1 and beyond the section 5 is the motordrive shaft 9 on which is fixed, by means of screws l0, a rotatable spiral conesshapedcutter Il. the edge of which coacts with the teeth 8 on each side of said rib 1 to eil'ect a shearing or shaving of hair when the guard is placed vinto engagement with the face of the operator. By utilizing the rib 1 as a rest, the teeth of the guard may be adjusted relative to the face to eiiect a close or substantially close shave upon rotation of said cutter 15 by said motor.
A disk I2 effects a closure between said guard and the interior of the casing whereby to prevent hair and other foreign matter from entering said.
disposed aperture through which the shaft l extends.
From the foregoing it will be apparent that the guard l maybe readily detached from the secan easy cleansingof the parts.
Furthermore, it will be distinctly understood that various changes and modifications in the construction and arrangement of the parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or scope o f the appended claim.
What I claim is:
A device of the character described, comprising, a casing adapted 'to have mounted therein a motor having a drive' shaft extending beyond said casing, a conical-shaped guard connected lto said casing and axially receiving said shaft, said guard formed with a longitudinally extending rib fashioned with transversely extending teeth terminating about said guard on the opposite side of the axis of the latterrelative to said rib. a cutter ixed on said shaft and rotatable by the latter within said guard for coaction with said-teeth in a manner to eii'ect shavingof the face when said teeth are in engagemnt with said face, and a-disk interposed between said cutter and said casing for preciuding entrance of foreign matter within said casing.
