Description
March 31, 1942. H. GASS ,27
HOSE CLAMP Filed Aug. 29, 1941 INVENTOR ATTORNEY Patented Mar. 31, 1942 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE Harold Gass, New York, N. Y.
Application August 29, 1941, Serial No. 408, 24 I 3 Claims. (on. 24-19) Fig. 2 is a sectional view'on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1, and
l Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the clamping bracket.
According to the invention, the hose clamp l comprises a relatively thin metal strap ll preferably of non-resilient but deformable and flexible stock. This strap is substantially annular and includes an inner arcuate end l2 provided with reinforcing ribs l3.
Supporting means in the form of a lug gen-' erally designated i4 isbent from the body of the strap providing a plurality of closely positioned walls I! having horizontally alined perforations it for the reception of the unthreaded portion of th threaded shank ll of a bolt which embodies a slotted head H.
The other end to of the strap is provided with spaced perforations is selectively and removably receiving the free end of the threaded portion 2a of shank i'l, the latter being also received in the threaded opening 2i of the upstanding wall or leg 22 of the bracket broadly denoted 23.
This bracket has a downwardly and outwardly against the outer end of the strap as shown.
In instances where it is desired to remove the clamping relation, the bolt is acfiustably rotated until it leaves the, receiving opening I! after which the outer end l8 of the strap may be desirably adjusted to permit the strap to accommodate another size of pipe.
Various changes may be made in details of construction and arrangement of parts without departing from the spirit of the invention or sacrificing any of the advantages thereof inherent therein.
I claim:
1. In a hose clamp, an annular strap including perforated supporting means, said strap having an inner end and an outer end movable towards or away from each other, said outer end including a plurality of spaced openings, a threaded bolt removably sustained by said supporting means, and abracket having an upper upstanding legand a lower leg inclined downwardly and inclined leg 24 provided with the transversely arranged opening 25 adapted to receive end l8 of the strap as illustrated.
With the bolt inserted in lug I4 and in the upstanding wall 22 and threaded in one of the openings Is, the bore of the latter prevents slackening of the strap even though the latter is encompassing a pipe line or the like not illustrated.
However the inner and outer ends I2 and it of the strap may be adjusted towards or away from each other depending upon the rotation of the bolt. Thus the strap may be desirably and adjustably held in a. clamping relation about a pipe it encompasses. If in aclamping relation, the apex or corner 28 defined by the inclined face 21 of opening or gap 25 and the lower or outer.
'2. In a hose clamp, an annular strap including upstanding perforated supporting means, said strap having an inner end and an outer end mov- 40 able towards or away from each other, said outer end including a plurality of spaced openings, a threaded bolt removably sustained by said supporting means above said ends, and a removable bracket having anupper upstanding leg and a lower leg inclined downwardly and outwardly in respect to said upstanding leg, the latter having means to receive the threaded shank of said bolt whereby the latter enters one of said openings to prevent slackening of said strap, said lower leg including a gap for removably receiving said out er. end and having a lower comer portion bounding said gap, said corner portion on rotation of said shank in one direction cooperating with said inner and outer ends I. and 19 are held in an outer end to urge the latter tightly towards and against said inner end to prevent longitudinal slippage of said ends in opposite direc..'.ons.
3. In a hose clamp, an annular strap including perforated supporting means, saidstraphavingan inner end and an outer end movable towards or away from each other, said outer end including a plurality of spaced openings, a threaded bolt removably sustained by said supporting means above said ends, and a bracket having an upper upstanding leg and a lower leg inclined downwardly and outwardly in respect to said upstanding leg, the latter having a threaded opening to 10 receive the threaded shank of said bolt whereby the latter enters one of said openings 01 said outer end to prevent slackening of said strap, said lower leg including a gap having an inclined i'ace constituting' one wall of said gap, said lower leg having a bottom face disposed downwardly and outwardly relative to said inclined face and defining therewith a corner portion in part bounding said gap longitudinally thereof, said comer portion only of said lower inclined leg on rotation 01' said shank in one direction cooperating with said outer end to urge the latter tightly towards and against said inner end to prevent longitudinal slippage of said ends in opposite directions.
HAROLD GASS.
