To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CALVIN L. BUTLER, of Greenfield, State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Garvthe shank at a.

'The invention consists in providing a guard so hinged to the shank of a carving-fork as to serve also as a rest with a spring the free end of which catches against one side or the other of the shoulder to keep the guard in position whether opened or closed.

I claim In combination with a carving-fork having a shoulder formed on its shank, a hinged guard branching upon each side of the shank and provided with a spring-tongue, which forms a part thereof and works in connection with said shoulder, substantially as described, for the purpose specified.
