.10 Claims.
This invention relates'toholders for phonograph records.
An objectof this invention is to' provide a holder of the character described, in which the phonograph record envelopes are slidably mounted so that they may be selectively moved forward to project from the holder sufficiently to permit removal of a desired record, means being furthermore provided to permit removal of any or all of the envelopes for replacement of torn envelopes.
et a further object of this invention is to provide a holder of the character described, so constructed that a number of such holders may be readily mounted within any cabinet, for example, a: phonograph cabinet.
Still another object of this invention is to provide a compact, neat and durable holder of the character described, supporting a relatively large number of phonographrecords, which shallbe relatively inexpensiveto manufacture, easy to manipulate, and yet practical and efficient to a high degree in use.
Other objects of this invention will in part be obvious and in part hereinafter pointed out.
The invention accordingly consists in the features of construction, combinations of elements, and arrangement of parts which will be exemplified in the construction hereinafter described, and of which the scope of application will be indicated in the followingclaims.
In the accompanying drawings, in which are shown various possible illustrative embodiments fofthis invention, I
Fig. 1 is a perspective v" w of a phonograph record holder embodying the invention shown, for the purpose of illustration, as a portable case for records; Fig. 2 is a cross-sectional View taken 2 2 of Fig. 1; h
Fig. 3 is a cross-sectional view taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 2;
Fig. 4 is a cross-sectional view taken on lin 4-6 of Fig. 2; i
Fig. 5 is a partial View similar to Fig. l, and
on line showing one of the envelopes pulled forward to permit removal of the phonograph record;
Fig. 8 isa perspective View of a plurality of phonograph record envelopes mounted on a hanger;
Fig. 9 is a top plan view of a hanger; Fig. 10, is a cross-sectional View taken on line Ill-40 of Fig. 9; and Fig. 11 is a side elevational view taken on lin ll-H ofFig. 9. p g
Referring now in detail to the drawings, [0 designates a phonograph record holder embody,- ing the invention. The same-comprises a case ll having a bottom wall l2, a top wall 13, side walls l4 and a rear wall l5. The case is open at the front. The front of the'case may be closed by a hinged door I'L. The case may furthermore be provided with a strap handle la at the top, whereby to permit the holder to be carried around, thus making the same a portable phonoe graph holder. f
The inner surfaces of side walls M of the case are formed, adjacent the. upper ends thereof, with similar, aligned, horizontal rail grooves 22 extending to the front open end of the case. The
grooves 22 are widened or enlarged downwardly,
as at 23 at the rear ends thereof; Thus, the rear portions 23 of the grooves 22 are of greater vertical height or width than the front ends thereof.
Supported on and between the side walls M of the case is a hanger .25 forphonograph record envelopes 25. Theholder 25 may be made of metal wire, or of any other suitable material and is substantially rectangular. The same has parallel side portions 23 and parallel front and end portions 29. The length of 'the side portions 28 is substantially equal to the lengths of the widened portions 23 of grooves 22, and said portions of the hanger 25 rest within the groove portions 23 when the hanger is pushed back in grooves 23. The front and rear portions 29 are formed with fiat, parallel, transverse grooves 30 in the upper sides thereof for the purpose hereinafter appearing.
The width of groove 22 is sufficient to permit the hanger to be slidablyrnoved through said grooves. Thus, the hanger 25 may be inserted through the grooves 22, pushed rearwardly and will then drop into groove portions 23.
It will be noted that the shoulders 23s at the forward ends of the groove portions 23 serve as stops to prevent the hanger from accidentally sliding forwardly out of the case.
A plurality of record envelopes are slidably mounted on the hanger 25. The envelopes 26 are formed adjacent the upper edges thereof with horizontal registering slots 32, longer than the side portions 28 of the hanger 25. Portions 29 of hanger extend transversely through the registering slots 32 and the upper edges 35 of said slots engage within the slots 30 of the hanger, so that the envelopes will not shift sideways.
It will now be understod that each envelope may be slidably moved forwardly to project through the front open end of the case H, to permit removal of the record within said envelope. The envelopes may be numbered in series as by tabs 35. Should any envelopes be torn or need replacement, the entire hanger 2'5 together with the envelopes 26 may be removed from the case H, to permit replacement of the envelopes. To remove the hanger, it is lifted in groove portions 23 to clear the shoulders at the front ends of said groove portions. The hanger together with the envelopes may then be reinserted into the case.
In Fig. 7 there is shown a cabinet 48, such as a phonograph cabinet or a radio cabinet. Mounted within the cabinet 49 are one or more phonograph record holders [0a, embodying the invention, and illustrating a modified form thereof. The holders [Ga each comprise a member 4! made of wire. Each member 4| comprises a bottom rectangular member 42 made of wire and comprising parallel side portions 43 and parallel end portions 44. The end portions 44 may each be provided with a pair of intermediate loops 45 to receive screws 46 or other fastening members for fastening member 4! to the bottom wall 48 of the cabinet.
Welded or otherwise attached to each side portion 43 of member 42, is a vertical side member 58. Members 50. are parallel to each other, and only one thereof will be described. Each member 50 may be made of a single piece of wire and comprises vertical, parallel end portions 5|, from the upper ends of which there extend inwardly short horizontal portions 52. EXtending inwardly from the lower ends of portions 5i are horizontal, aligned portions 53 contacting the side portions 43 of member 42. Extending upwardly from the inner ends of portions 53 are vertical portions 54, from which there extends inwardlyaligned, horizontal portions 55 aligned with the wire end portions 52. Extending downwardly from the inner ends of portions 55 are vertical portions 56 interconnected by a bottom horizontal portion 5'! likewise contacting one of the side portions 43 of member 42.
Mounted on and attached to the upper ends of members 50, is a rectangular member 60 made of wire, and having parallel side portions 6| contacting the portions 52 and 55 of members 50, and end portions 62 interconnecting the side portions 6|. Members 69 and 42 are in alignment and in horizontal planes as shown in the drawings. Member 60 may be attached to the upper ends of members 50 likewise by welding or in any other suitable manner.
Fixed to the inner sides of members 50 adjacent the upper ends thereof are a pair of similar aligned parallel members or rails HI, each made of a single piece of Wire. Each member 10 comprises aligned end portions H interconnected by a depressed horizontal portion 12 disposed at a level lower than portion H. The portions ll of each member l8 contact and are fixed to portions 5| and 54 of member 50, Whereas, the depressed portion 12 contacts and is attached to portions 56 of member 59.
The hanger 25 may be inserted between members 5B and above members 10, and pushed back until it drops onto the depressed portions 12 of member It. The envelopes 26 are thus slidably supported on the hanger, which in turn is mounted on member 4|.
It will now be understood that any suitable number of members Ida may be mounted in any suitable cabinet space.
It will thus be seen that there is provided a device in which the several objects of thi invention are achieved, and which is well adapted to meet the conditions of practical use. As various possible embodiments might be made of the above invention, and as various changes might be made in the embodiments above set forth, it is to be understood that all matter herein set forth or shown in the accompanying drawings is to be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
