UNITED STATES PATENT EEICE.
JOHN BENBOW, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO.
GAS OR VAPOR STOVE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 237,672, dated February 15, 1881. Application filed July 9, 1 880. (No model.)
.being had to the accompanying drawings,
which form part of this specification.
My invention relates to coal-oil or vapor stoves; and it consists of a framework adapted to support the burners and cooking utensils ordinarily used upon stoves of this character,-
and at the same time so constructed that it is adapted to fit in an ordinary cooking-stove, and receive upon its top the short center and two lids of an ordinary stove.
The object of my invention is to furnish a coal-oil or vapor stove that can be used in an ordinary cooking-stove, where the possibility of accident incident to leaky pipes is reduced to the minimum, and where all odor and smoke arising from the burners will be carried offthrough the stove to the chimney.
In the drawings, Figure l is a detached view, in elevation, of an oil or vapor stove constructed according to my invention. Fig. 2 is an isometrical view of an ordinary cooking-stove provided with a coal-oil or vapor stove constructed according to my invention.
In the said drawings, A represents the framework, adapted to rest upon the top of a stove, or,when used detached from the stove, adapted to support the cooking utensils. It is provided with legs or supports B B. These must be necessarily short, in order to permit their entrance into the fire-box of an ordinary stove.
0 represents a can or container suitable to accommodate the oil or gasoline used as a fuel. This can or container 0 is connected with the burners D through the pipe 0.
As shown in Fig. 2, the top of the frame A is adapted to receive and contain the short center and two lids of an ordinary stove.
It will be apparent that the frame-work A should be constructed to fit the different sizes and kinds of stoves in which it is desired to be used.
I do not confine my invention to use upon the whole front of a stove, as shown in Fig.2; it may be made smaller and adapted to rest over a single pot-hole, and supplied with a single burner.
What I claim is-- 1. An oil or vapor stove provided with a frame, A, burners D, a pipe, G, and reservoir 0, the pipe 0 being supported by the frame A, substantially as set forth.
2. An oil or vapor stove adapted to rest in the fire-box of an ordinary cook-stove, consisting of the frame A, supports B B, fuel-container G, and burners D, substantially as set forth.
3. An oil or vapor stove consisting of a frame adapted to be placed upon the top of an ordinary cook-stove and supported over the firebox, said frame provided with one or more stove-lid-supportin g flanges, and having burners, a fuel-container, and fuel-supply pipe permanently connected therewith, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof 1 have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
