The invention aims primarily to provide a novel and advantageous attachment for any of various kinds of chairs, which will form a comfortable leg rest when in one position, and will constitute a convenient table over the chair seat when in another position, the invention being, therefore, well adapted to fulfill the needs of persons who, from desire or necessity, sit a great deal.

Further objects are to make novel provisiony for attaching the device to a chair; to provide easily operable means for holding relatively movable parts of the device in proper relation with each other whether the attachment be serving as a leg rest or a table, and to provide for removing slack'from the leg-supporting web.

Figure 1 of the accompanying drawings, is a side elevation partly in section showing the invention and a portion of a chair to which it is attached.

Figure 2 is a top plan View partly in section.

Figure 3 is aside elevation partly in section showing the device in use as a table over the chair seat.

Figure 4 is an enlarged fragmentary section on l line 4-4 of Fig. 2.

Preferred details have been illustrated in the drawings and will be rather specifically described, with the understanding, however, that within the scope of the invention as'claimed, variations maybe made.

A portion of a chair I is shown, having a suitable seat I I and a transverse bar I2 at the front end of said seat. This bar I 2 is formed with two openings or sockets I3 and is provided with two downwardly projecting lugs I4 near said openings or sockets, thus adapting the chair fory connection of the combined leg rest and table, now to be described.

I6, a somewhat longer intermediate section I1, and a still longer outer or front section I8, the three sections being hingedly connected by hinges I9 which are constructed to permit movement of said sections into different relations with eachV `V other, and locking of said sections against undesired relative movements when adjusted.

The inner section I6 includes two short side bars 20 connected by a transverse bar 2| which is preferably secured to said side bars 20 by means of screws 22. 'Ihe inner ends of the bars 20 are arched at 23 and provided with downwardly projecting fingers 24 receivable in the openings or sockets I3. The inner ends of the bars 20 are also provided with'two downwardly projecting lugs 25 to occupy positions at the front sides of the two lugs I4, and adjusting screws 26 are threaded rearwardly through said lugs 25 to abut the front sides of said lugs I4. yThe lower end of each lug 25 carries a pivoted latch 21 which may be swung from the released downwardly projecting position of Figs. 1 and 4 to the operative position of Fig. 3, in which latter position, the bill 28 of said latch 21 hooks behind the lug I4. The screw 26 is loosened somewhat before the latch is swung to this operative position, and when the screw is then tightened, said latch will be eiectively held in latching engagement with the lugy I4. It is preferable to secure a ilat spring 29 to the lug 25, said spring being cooperable at surfaces on with the pivoted end of the latch2'l to yieldably hold it in either of'v the positions shown. e

The intermediate section I1 of the frame I5 comprises side bars 30 connected by transverse bars 3 I, and the outer or front section L5 includes side bars 32 and an outer end bar 33.V The bar 33 is provided with reduced extensions 34 on its ends which extend through slots 35 in the inner sides of the bars 32, thelatter being tubular. Caps 36 close the outer ends of these bars 32, and screws 3l pass rotatably through these caps and are threaded through the ends 34 of the bar 33. By turning the screws 3l, the bar 33 may obviously be adjusted with respect to the inner end bar 2I. It will also be seen that both of these bars 33 and 2| may be detached when desired. This is of advantage in order that they may be inserted through hems 38 on the ends of a legsupporting web 39, and in order that a new web may be supplied whenever necessary.
