Description
1 LOEWENTHAL.
FASTENING PORGLOVBS. No .'244,632. Patented July 19,1881.
Jaw/2221' N. mans mum Wlm 0.1;
UNITED- STATES.
PATENT OFFICEO ERNST LOEWELTTHAL, OF HAMBURG, GERMANY.
FASTENING FOR GLOVES.
SPEGIFIGATIONforming part of Letters Patent No. 244,632,. dated July 19, 1881.
'- Application filed J 111.10 3, 1881. (No model.)
To all. whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, 'ERNsT 'LOEWENTHAL, of Hamburg, in the Empire of Germany, have invented certain new and useful 1m provements in Fastenings for Gloves and other Articles, of which the following isa specification.
My invention relates to fastenings composed of two parts adapted to be secured to the two sides of a glove or other article to be fastened, or one to each of two articles to be fastened together, one of saidparts having a projecting headed pin or stud and the other a slot or opening comprising a hole for the insertion of the pin or stud and a narrower portion which fits the pin or stud below the head and prevents the withdrawal thereof.
The invention consists in a novel method of securing the said two parts of the fastening in the leather or other material of the gloveor other article.
In the accompanyingdrawin gs, Figures 1 and 2 represent respectively a section and plan of onepart of the fastening. Figs. 3 and 4. represent respectively a section and plan of the other part of the fastening. Figs. 5 and 6 represent sectional views of the two parts of the fastening and pieces of material in which they are secured. Fig. 7 represents a section of a portion of a fastening of modified form, and Fig. 8 represents a glove having the fastening applied thereto.
Similar letters of reference designate corresponding parts in all the figures.
A B designate the two parts of the fastening. The part A, in allthefigures except I ig,v
7, is represented as composed of a head or cap piece, a, of sheet metal, and an eyelet having an outwardly-projecting flange at one end, over which the edge of the cap-piece is folded, as most clearly. shown in Fig. l. The foldedover edge of the cap-piece a then forms a shoulder or flange, b, and the body of the eyelet forms a cyliudric rim or flange, 0. At the center of the part A, within the flange c, is a headed pin or stud, d, which projects from a bar or disk secured between the eyelet and the cap-piece a when they are fastened together, as previously described.
In Fig. 7 the part A, with the shoulder b, flange c, and pin or stud d, is represented as formed of a single piece of metal by casting.
The part B of the fastening is composed of p a circular plate or disk, 6, and an eyelet having at one end an outwardly-projecting flange, over which the edge of said disk is folded, thus forming a shoulder, 12, while the body of the eyelet forms a cylindric rim or flange, c, as previously described with reference to the part A. In the-disk or plate 0 is a hole or slot, f, comprising a larger portion, of sufficient size to admit the head of the pin or stud d and a smaller portion fitting the neck thereof, or the part below the head, and preventingits withdrawal.
In applying the parts of the fasteningto two. pieces of leather or other material, such asO, holes are first punched therein, which will just admit the flanges c, and, after being inserted, the edges of the said-flanges are turned outward and pressed down or set, thus securely clamping the material C between such turned-over edges and the shoulders'b.
In Fig. 8 I have shown the two parts of the fastening as applied to a glove, and although the invention is particularly applicable to gloves,it is also advantageous in fastening together two parts of any article of similar material, or two different articles. p
I am aware that a fastening composed of two parts, one having a headed pin or stud and the other a key-hole slot for the reception of said pin or stud, is old, and therefore do not, claim such fastening as of my invention.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The fastening composed of the two parts A and B, the first having the headed pin or stud d and the second thehole or slot f, and each having a shoulder, 12, and a cylindric flange, 0, adapted to be upset to secure it to the article, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
2. Thefastening composed of the two parts A and B, the first having the headed pin or stud d and the second the hole or slot f, and each'composed of an eyelet and a cap piece or plate, the edge of which is folded over the flange of the eyelet, thus forming on each of the said parts a shoulder, 11, and a cylindric flange, c, substantially as'described.
