FISHING-ROD.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 250,968, dated December 13, 1881.

Figure l is a longitudinal section of the buttsection of a rod made in accordance with my invention, and Fig. 2 is a cross-section of the same.
A is the rod-section, consisting of the central core, a, of wood, and an outer tube, 11, of india-rubber or similar material, covering the lower end of the section. The covering b will extend a suitable distance upon the wood, according to the style of rod, and is retained by a metal cap, c, at the outer endyand a winding, 6?, of thread around the wood a at the inner end of the tube. The cap 0 may be fastened to the core by a side pin, as shown in Fig. l of the drawings, or by a screw,or in any other suitable manner. The covering is preferably india-rubber, but may be celluloid or any hard composition that is water-proof and will give a smooth and hard surface. The tube is first manufactured and then applied to the rod and secured. The surface ot the covering 1) is polished, and preferably beaded, as shown.
