This invention relates to brassieres and the object is to proviede a brassiere having the front central portion thereof designed to fit closely against the body between the breasts at all times while permitting the brassiere to give with every movement of the body.

More particularly, the invention consists in providing a brassiere with a waist band shaped,

at its upper edge, to form a V-shaped notch in the central portion, breast pocket sections having their lower edges secured to'the waist band with their inner side edges extending upwardly from the waist band and control members interconnecting the inner side edges of the breast. pocket sections.

The invention further consists in providing stifiening members arranged in the central portion of the waist band with their upper ends terminating at the inclined sides of the V-shaped notch to provide a closer fitting of the waist band to the body between the breasts.

Other objects, advantages and characteristic features of the invention will be more readily understood from the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which- Fig. 1 is a front view of a brassiere embodying this invention.

Fig. 2 is a rear view of the brassiere shown in Fig. 1.

As shown in these drawings, my improved brassire comprises a front section 5 and side sections 6 and is equipped with conventional shoulder straps I.

Front section 5 comprises a waist band member 8, breast pockets 9 and control members I0 and II interconnecting spaced inner side edge portions of the breast pocket sections extending upwardly from waist band 8.

Waist band 8 is secured at its opposite ends to the lower portions of the inner end edges of side sections 6. The upper edge of waist band 8 is shaped to provide a central V-shaped notch or recess I2 flanked by concavely curved edges I3 extending from the notch I2 to the ends of the waist band. The central portion of waist band 8 is stiffened and reinforced by stiffening members I I having their upper ends terminating flush with the inclined sides of the notch I2 and their lower ends terminating at or adjacent the lower edge of the waist band. In this connection it will be noted that stiffening members I4 are inclined so that they are close together at their upper ends and are relatively widely spaced at their lower ends.

.The outer sidesoi breast pocket sections 9 are joined to the upper portions of the inner end edgesof side sections 6. The bottom and inner side. edges of each breast pocket section are formedby a convexly curved edge It extending from the outer sideto'the upper edge of the breast pocket. That portion of the curved edge It which constitutes the bottom of each breast pocket 9 is joinedtt o the underlying concavely curved edge portion H of waist band 8. The remaining portionsof the curved edges it which define the innerside edges of the breast pockets 9 curve upwardly and inwardly from the ends of the notch I2 in spaced relation to each other and are interconnected by the previously mentioned control members I0 and II.'

Each of the control members It! and H is shown as a substantially triangular piece of fabric presenting a relativelylong ,concavely curved edge ILa relatively short concavely curved edge I8 and a relatively long straight edge I9.

The relatively long concavely curved edge I! of control member ID is joined to and is coextensive with that portion of the curved edge 4'5 which defines the inner side of the right hand breast pocket 9. The relatively short concavely curved edge I8 of control member I0 is joined to the upper part of that portion of curved edge I6 which defines the inner side of the left hand breast pocket 9. The control member I0 is dimensioned so that the above described method of securing its curved edges l! and I8 to the breast pockets 9 results in the relatively long straight edge I9 of said control member It being disposed so that it extends obliquely across the notch I2 in spaced relation to the right hand side of the notch.

The relatively long concavely curved edge I! of control member l I is joined to and is co-extensive with that portion of the curved edge I6 which defines the inner side of the left hand breast pocket 9. The relatively short concavely curved edge I8 of control member II is joined to the upper part of that portion of curved edge I6 which defines the inner side of the right hand breast pocket 9. The control member II is dimensioned so that the described method of securing its curved edges I1 and I8 to the breast pockets 9 results in the relatively long straight edge I9 of said control member being disposed so that it extends obliquely across the notch I2 in spaced relation to the left hand side of the notch, said member II being arranged in overlapping relation to member I 9.

The free ends of side sections Ii are provided with band members 20 having complementary fastening members 2| for securing the garment about the wearer.

I claim:

1. A brassiere comprising a Waist band in the lower portion, said band being recessed at its upper edge, to provide a central V-shaped notch, breast pocket sections spaced apart and having their lower edges secured to said waist band with their inner side edge portions convexly curved and extending upwardly from said waist band, and a pair of control members disposed in free overlapping relation, each control member being substantially triangular in shape and presenting a relatively long concavely curved edge, a relatively short concavely curved edge and a, relatively long straight edge, said control membersbeing reversely arranged with .the relatively long concavely curved edge of one and the relatively short concavely curved edge of the other joined to the convexly curved inner side edge portions of each breast pocket section in interconnecting relation with the relatively long straight edge of each control member being disposed so that it extends obliquely across said V-shaped notch in spaced relation to opposite sides thereof.

2. A brassiere as set forth in claim 1, including stiffening members in the central portion of the waist band having their upper end terminating flush with the inclined sides of the V-shaped notch.

A brassiere as set forth in claim 1, including stiffening members in the central portion of the waist band, said stiffening members being disposed with their upper ends flush with the inclined sides of the V-shaped notch and inclined so that they are close together at their upper ends and are relatively widely spaced at their lower ends.

'5. A brassiere as set forth in claim 4, each control member having a relatively long marginal edge secured to one of the breast pocket sections along the entire length of the inner edge of said breast pocket section which extends above the waist band and having a relatively short marginal edge secured to the breast pocket section only along the upper portion of the inner edge of the last mentioned breast pocket section which extends above the waist band, the relatively long edge of each control member being secured to the same breast pocket section to which the relatively short edge of the other control member is secured.
