101mm.` 01. m4a1-self This invention relates generallyto games and particularly` to what is Vknownj as a"p1inchiboardl` The 'main' object of thisinvention'is to"` provide a game device inwhichapunch board can be easily operated" and by; means-of which` the `owner of the'punchboard' willalways be apprised of the fact that the board is being operated as well as the number of operationsand when the punches are* Withdrawn therefro'mi` The second object is to producela.A board of the class described in` which theimproper operation will be discouraged" and in which the holder of the `lfioarizl is adaptable to various sizes of "punch bo'apfrds- These and otherobjects areV accomplished in the manner set-forth inthef'llowing specificationas illustrated inthe1` accompanying=` drawings, in which:
Fig. l is a perspective view of the device.
Fig. 2 is a vertical section taken along the line 2-2 in Fig. 1 showing the ejector in a retracted position.
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary view similar to the lower portion of Fig. 2 showing the ejector in an eX- tended position.
Fig. 4 is a fragmentary horizontal section taken along the line 4-4 in Fig. 2.
Fig. 5 is a horizontal section taken along the line 5--5 in Fig. 2.
Fig. 6 is a section taken along the line 6-6 in Fig. 2.
Fig. 7 is a section taken along the line 'I-'I in Fig. 2.
Fig. 8 is a longitudinal section through the punching member.
Similar numerals refer to throughout the several views.
Referring in detail to the drawing, there is shown a base I upon which are supported the sides II and the rear wall I2. Resting upon the base IIJ is an ejector I3 whose slide I4 is slidable within the slot I formed in the base IIJ. A cover plate I6 extends across the ejector I3 and holds it down upon the base I0.
The ejector I3 has a rectangular opening I'I formed therein and its rearmost edge I8 is slightly behind the edge I3 of the cover plate I6 when the ejector I3 is in a retracted position, and the edge I8 registers with the forward edge 28 of the base I0 when the ejector I3 is in an ejecting position. A tab -A having an opening 2| formed therein projects from the forward end of the ejector I3 for the purpose of withdrawing same.
On the slide I4 is formed a block 2I--A Yin similar parts z. front" of which` is stretched a spring 22T: on the bolts 23. Betweenthe bolts 23 and in fronti of the`spring`22 i'spla"`ced thecontact'post 24vl which isi out of engagement with the springk 272 when tire-'ejector' I3iscompl'etely retracted.
Y ecru 32 chess-second1eaewire'asiisconneetedto the* binding post 34; which Lin turn is connected by the lead 435 to the buzzerr 1'; the =oppo`sitel ter; minal of which is connected by the lead 36 to the contact post 24.
On the opposite end of the flexible cord 32 is mounted a switch body 3'I within which is dis-i posed a conical contact 38 which is connected to the wire 3|. Mounted on the body 31 is a tubular handle 39 within which is mounted a plunger 40. The plunger 40 and its reduced ends 4I and 42 are metallic and the point 43 is urged away from the contact 38 by Ameans of the spring 44 which is connected to the lead 33.
The purpose of this portion of the device is simply to provide a convenient punch end |45 by means of which the pellets 46 can be punched out of the holes 41 in the board 48.
The sides II have the inclined front edge 49 on which is secured a back 50. front side of the back 50 are the slides 5I and 52, each of which is provided with a slot 53 through which extends the bolts 54 for clamping purposes. In front of the members 5I and 52 is a cover plate 52A through which the bolts 54 extend for the purpose of clamping the slides 5I and 52 against the back 5I).
Each of the members 5I and 52 is provided with a slot 55 which receives the guide strip 56 which is secured to the back 50.
Each of the slides 5I and 52 has secured thereon a side 5'I, both of which are provided with recesses 53 to receive the punch board 48. It is desirable to provide the pointed screws 59 which engage the edges of the punch board 48 and prevent it from being withdrawn as long as the wing nuts 63 are tightened.
It can be seen from the foregoing that the board holder readily adapts itself to a variety of widths of punch boards by merely loosening the wing nuts and moving the sides 51 to the Slidable on the desired position. Springs 51-A urge the sides 51 toward each other.
In the operation of the device, the player merely grasps the handle 39 in his hand and inserts the punch 45 into a hole 41 and pushes it until he has ejected the pellet t6 therefrom. This action has, however, compressed the spring M and contacted the members 38 and 43 thereby causing current to flow from the battery 25 to the bell 26. This action will be repeated at each punching so that the owner of the board can count, if he wishes, the number of punches. When through punching, the player merely draws on the tab 29-A, moving the ejector i3 from the position shown in Fig. 2 to the position shown in Fig. B-that is unloading the various punchings 49 upon the table. This action, it will be noted, has caused the spring 22 to delect and engage the contact post 24 causing current to flow to the buzzer 2l which tells the owner that the punches are being withdrawn from the device.
It will be understood., of course, that While a bell 26 and buzzer 21 have been shown, and that these are electrically operated, that lights may be substituted therefor, or mechanically operated bells, or other alarm devices can be employedV without departing from the spirit of the invention.
It is desirable to provide a cover 6| over the 4 having a slide attached thereto slidable in said guide, said ejector having a block on top of one end thereof, said ejector having a transverse slot formed therein constituting a pocket for which said base forms a bottom'when said ejector is in a retracted position, and said slot extends beyond said base in an ejecting position, an elongated helical spring secured to said base above said slide and normal to said slot and in l, the path of said block, an alarm mechanism including an alarm circuit having one lead attached to said spring and another lead forming a contact in the plane of said spring and spaced therefrom when said spring is not deilected but engageable therewith when said spring is defiected by said ejector through said block whereby an electric circuit is closed when said ejector is extended and said pocket is beyond the outer edge of said base, and means for holding a punchboard over said ejector so that the punchings will enter said slot when said ejector is in a retracted position and be allowed to escape therefrom over the edge of said base when said ejector is in an ejecting position, thereby closing the circuit through said alarm mechanism.
