SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 257,223, dated May 2, 1882.
Application filed September 10,1881. (Model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, FREDRIC M. HUn'rLn, of Dowagiac, in the county of Cass and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Vehicle-Hubs; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanyin g drawings, which f'orin a part ot' this speciiication.
Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional view of my invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical transverse sectional view; and Fig. 3 is a detail view.
Corresponding parts in the several figures are denoted by like letters of reference.
This invention relates to sand-bands for vehicle-wheels; and it consists in certain inlprovements in the Patent No. 228,761, granted to myself on June 15, 1.880, as will be hereinafter fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.A
In the drawings hereto annexed, A represents the axle, B the spindle, and C the hub, to which my invention has been applied. The said hub is provided at its inner end with a ring or band, D, having two anges, E F, the inner one of which, F, lares outwardly, as shown. The axle A is provided with a flange,
G, closely adjoining the spindle, and provided with a rim, H, and with a threaded section, I, to receive a band, J, which may be screwed up closely against the said rim H to form a sandband, fitting between the iianges E and F of the hub. 'lhe band J is provided with an inwardprojecting rim, K, in which the screwthread is cut. Said rim thus forms the th read, and also serves as a flange to prevent the admission of sand or dirt into the hub.
I am aware of the patent to Golder, No. 200,0i9, and I claim nothing therein shown; but,
Having thus described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United Statesy rEhe vehicle-axle having screw-thread I and annular liange H, in combination with the interiorLv-th readed sand-bandJ, abuttingagainst the said flange II, and the hub having doubleflanged band D, as shown and specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
C. T. LEE, E. F. Howe.
