4 Claims. (Cl. 2-459) The principal object of this invention is the provision of a blank or trank for gloves from which the entire glove with the exception of a single gore insert therein, is made. It will be understood that the fewer the component parts of a glove the fewer will be its seams. The fewer the seems the more attractive and comfortable will be the glove and the more easily and inexpensively will it be made. In the present invention a single blank includes all of the finger portions as well as the palm and back portions and all that remains to be included within the glove to complete it is a single gore which forms part of the thumb piece and which provides part of the connecting link between said thumb piece and the palm of the glove. It is accordingly the principal object of this invention to provide a trank or blank as described which includes all of the glove as well as the palm and back thereof, :2
and which lacks solely a small piece needed to complete the thumb.
Another object of this invention is the provision of a glove in which there is no scam in the crotch of the thumb piece and hence a corollary object is the provision of a blank for such glove.
A further object of this invention is the provision of a glove wherein no seams are provided or needed to join the palm and back portions of the glove to each other. In the present invention the palm and back portions are integral with each other and hence they are continuous with each other. There is a seam however, but that seam extends through the palm itself along a line which begins in the juncture between the thumb and the palm and which extends longitudinally thereof in the direction away from the fingers. This seam does not detract from the appearance of the glove and it does not adversely affect the usefulness of the glove.
Additional objects and. advantages of the present invention will become apparent from a reading of the following description thereof and from an examination of the accompanying drawing in which:
Fig. 1 is a plan view of the trank or blank of which the glove herein claimed is made;
Fig 2 is a corresponding view of a gore or insert which cooperates with the blank shown in Fig. l to complete the glove;
Fig. 3 is a palm view of a finished glove formed from the blanks shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the thumb piece thereof being folded b'ackwardly to expose the crotch;
Fig. 4 is a view similar to that of Fig. 3 showing the thumb piece in normally extended position;
Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the blank shown in Fig. 1 wherein the blank is folded upon itself preparatory to the stitching operation by which the seams are sewed upon the blank to form the glove; and
Fig. 6 is a sectional view on the line 6-6 of Fig. 5. 7
Reference to Figs. 1 and 2 will disclose the shape of the two blanks and more particularly of the blank and gore of which the glove herein claimed is made. It will be observed that blank or trank Ill includes virtually all of the parts of the glove, to witt: the palm I I, the back l2, the front of the little finger I3, the back of the little finger 13A, the front of the fourth finger I 4, the back of the fourth finger MA, the front of the middle finger l5, the back of the middle finger ISA, the front of the forefinger IS, the back of the forefinger [6A, the front or palm portion of the thumb I l and the back of the thumb HA. When the blank I0 is folded upon itself as is shown in Fig. 5, front finger portions l3, 14, I5, l6 and I! are superimposed upon back finger portions HA, I 4A, 15A, ISA and "A, re-
spectively. Seams are sewed along the several lines of juncture between the front and back portions of the fingers, all as is clearly shown in Figs. 3 and 4. There is no need for a seam along the outer edge of the small finger since the front and back portions thereof are integral with each other along said outer edge. Each of the other fingers however is provided with seams on both sides thereof. It should be understood at this point that conventional gores or fourchettes may be inserted between the front and back portion of each of the first four fingers to give said fingers a greater, more rounded capacity. A gore 20 such as is shown in Fig. 2 is inserted between the front and back portions of the thumb as is clearly shown in Fig. 4. This gore insert is diamond-shaped and its Widest portion is: aligned with the crotch line of the thumb.
In forming the thumb, after the blank is folded to the position of Fig. 5, the respective top edges the lower half of diamond-shaped insert 20. This line or seam 28 is therefore formed in or at the palm of the glove and since blank I is a unitary member no seams are necessary along the side edges 29 and 30 of the glove where the palm and back portions thereof meet.
As a result of this construction, the thumb of the glove is given a shape which conforms to the shape of the human thumb and the adjacent palm region.
It will be noted that the front thumb piece I7 is continuous with the palm of the glove and is in' line with the front portion of the forefinger 16. Hence when said front or'palm portion of the thumb ll is folded upwardly as shown in Figs. and 6, there will be no seam across the crotch to detract from the appearance of the glove or from portions are integral with the palm portion of the glove, and all of their back portions are integral with the back of the glove.
The foregoing is descriptive of the broad outlines .of this invention and it will be understood that modifications and variations may be incorporated therein within the scope and spirit of the invention. The invention has been described for example in connection with a ladys glove, but it will be appreciated that the invention may be applied to other types of gloves as well. The invention is especially designed for use in connection with dress gloves and particularly those are respectively integral and continuous with said glove back portion, a back thumb portion which is integral and continuous with said palm flap, a gore formed from a diamond-shaped blank, the upper side edges of said gore being respectively joined to the respective inner edges of said thumb flap and said back thumb portion, the lower side edges of said gore being respectively joined to the respective inner edges of said palm flap and said thumb flap. 7
2. A glove of the character described comprising palm and back portions, said palm portion comprising a palm flap and a thumb flap, the
outer 'side'edge of said palm flap being integral and continuous with one side edge of said glove back portion, the outer edge of said thumb flap being integral and continuous with the other side edge of said glove back portion, front finger portions which are respectively integral and continuous with said palm flap, back finger portions which are respectively integral and continuous with said glove back portion, a hack thumb portion which is integral and continuous with said palm flap, the outer side edges of said front and back portions of the little finger of the glove being integral and continuous with each other and with the common side edge of said glove back portion and said palm flap, a gore formed from a diamond-shaped blank, the upper side edges of said gore being respectively joined to the respective inner edges of said thumb flap and said back thumb portion, the lower side edges of said gore being respectively joined to the'respective inner edges of said palm flap and said thumb flap.
3. A glove comprising palm and back portions, said palm portion including a thumb flap which has an outer side edge which is integral and continuous with one side edge of said glove back portion, a palm flap which has an outer side edge which is integral and continuous with the other side edge of said back portion, said glove having a thumb member which comprises said thumb flap and a rear thumb portion, a substantially diamond-shaped gore which has upper side edges and lower side edges, said upper side edges of said gore being respectively joined to the respective inner side edges of said thumb flap and said back thumb portion, said lower side edges of said gore being respectively joined to the respective inner side edges of said palm flap and said thumb flap.
4. Aglovein accordance with claim 3, in which said back thumb portion is integral and continuous with said back portion. j
