UNITED STATES PATENT Damien.
SIGMUND .lilDINGrER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
WATER-CLOSET ATTACH M ENT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of. Letters Patent No. 263,877, datedSepte-mber 5, 1882.
Application filed June 22, 1882.
To all whom it may concern;
Be it known that I, SIGMUND EDINGER, of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Water-Closet Attachments; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the artto which it pertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to an improvement in water-closet attachments, and more particularly to a combined urinal and closet-cover, the object of the invention being to produce a device of this character which shall combine simplicity and cheapness of construction with durability and efficiency in use.
With these objects in view my invention consists in certain details of construction and combinations of parts, as will be hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a view in perspective of a device embodying my invention, and Fig. 2 is a view thereof in vertical cross-section.
A represents a water-closet of any desired portion of the pan, is designed to conduct the liquids voided thereinto to the closet or other conduit of escape. Aslot, H, formed in the seat of the closet, receives the pipe when the cover is in closed position. The said pan is preferably formed of sheet metal, but wood or other suitable material may be used in lieu thereof. if desired, the frame E may be dispensed with and a pan provided. with a stiff flange be, made to subserve all the functions of a cover and urinal. The pan itself is concealed and closed by an auxiliary cover, I, hinged to a strip, J, extending transversely across the rear portion of the pan.
A shield, K, secured to the inner face of the (No model.)
auxiliary cover, is designed to protect the same the shield and to prevent noxious odors from rising through the aperture between the cover I and the strip J, its lower end is extended below the edge of the said cover, as shown in the drawings. Although I prefer to attach the shield rigidly to the cover, if found desirable it may be made vertically adjustable thereupon.
I would have it understood that I do not limit myself to the exact construction shown and described, but I hold myself at liberty to make such slight changes and alterations as fairly fall within the. spirit and scope of my invention.
Having fully described my invention, what 1 claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The combination, with a closet, ofacover secured thereto, a, pan located in said cover, a pipe leading from the pan to a conduit of escape, and a cover for the pan, substantially as set forth.
2. The combination, with a closet, of a cover secured thereto, a pan located in said cover, a pipe leading from the pan to a conduit of escape, a cover for the pan, the same being secured to the seat-cover, and a shield attached to the inner face of the pan-cover, substantially as set forth.
3. The combination, with a closet, of a cover secured thereto, a pan located in said cover, a pipe leading from the pan to a conduit of escape, a cover for the pan, and a shield secured to the inner face ofthe pan-cover and extending below its rear edge, the top and sides of said shield being curved inwardly, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
SIGMUND EDINGER.
