l INVENTQR FIG 9 AKTHUKC. MW|LL|AM5 ATTORN EY5 gether with the vane 67 serve to sweep air out of a plurality of openings 69 in the housing 21.
Means are provided for adjusting the contact pressure between the cutter elements 58. 59 and 61 with the under side of the shear comb 36 seen in Fig. 2, and to this end the hub 46 is bored as at 7l, the coupling member 43 being likewise .bored at 72, the two bores 71 and 72 retaining a spring 73 held therein. The spring 73 urges the cutter 50 against the underside vof the shearing comb 36 in a manner well understood.l
The hub 46 has a recess 74 in the end thereof remote from the shaft 42, and a ball 76 is arranged to seat in the recess 74. screw 77 having a concave seat 75 which is threaded into an internally threaded sleeve 78 molded conczntrically with the inner ange 4l, the adjusting screw 77 having an hexagonal opening 79 therein, to receive an adjusting wrench, not shown. The proper deformation may thus be placed upon the spring 73 to adjust the contact pressure of the cutter elements 58, 59 and 61 fagainst the underside of the shearing comb 36. The adjusting screw 77 may be turned to a position so that in its cooperation with the spring 73 the contact pressure of the cutter elements against the shearing comb may be substantially reduced to Zero, thereby substantially eliminating any friction therebetween causing heat.`
Referring now to Figs. 8 and 9 of the drawings, there is shown another form of a shearing comb referred to generally' by the reference numeral 36a. Such a shear comb may be formed of metal mesh 8l which may be placed in a press to atten the strands 82 making up the mesh 81.` The same may also be constructed to provide a generally annular shape cutter head 36a having an outer rim 37a and an inner rim 39a which can be imbedded by a molding process in the outer ange 38 and the inner flange 41 as with the embodiment seen in Fig. 2.
The dry shaver according to the present invention presents a number of advantages not to be found in the shavers of the prior art. One of the important advantages resides in having the cutter elements travel in different orbital paths so as to minimize the heat between such cutter elements and the shearing head. Another advantage resides in the provision of vanes formed intet grally with the cutter elements thereby to provide suction to insure that the skin is brought into close contact with the shearing head and to bring the hair shafts into position for shearing. The provision of the vane members also enables the cuttings to be dispersed as fast as they are formed, thereby making it unnecessary to clean the shaver after each use. The constant movement of air through the shearing head and past the cutter elements reduces the heat at the cutter head to a minimum.
Another important advantage resides in the provision of the adjusting screw for varying the pressure between the shear comb and the cutter elements for the purpose of minimizing the heat, and also reducing unwanted wear occasioned by too great a contact pressure between the cutter elements and shear comb.
While the drawings illustrate a shearing head having inner and outer anges made of moldable material, it is within the skill of one in the art to construct the shearing head entirely of a suitable metal properly formed.
