(Cl. 25-131) The present invention relates generally to wall forms. More particularly, the invention relates to that type of wall form which is adapted for use in the formation of a concrete wall and comprises: (1) a series of upstanding edge to edge panels inthe form of rectangular facings and rectangular reinforcing frames'on the marginal portions of the outer faces of the facings; (2) a second se- 7 ries of similar upstanding panels in opposed and spaced apart relation with the panels of the first series; (3) horizontally positioned combined tie and spreader members which extend between and at right angles to the two series of panels and have apertured ends that fit between, and are disposed in horizontal notches in, the side pieces of the reinforcing frames of the panels; (4) horizontally positioned head and shank variety bolts which extend through the apertured ends of the combined tie and spreader members and registering holes in the notched portions of the side pieces of the panel frames and have partially exposedlongitudinal slots in the free ends of their shanks; and (5) vertically positioned wedges which extend through the exposed portions of the slots in the free ends of the bolt shanks, fit slidably against the inner side surfaces of the side pieces of the panel frames, and, when driven tightly into place, coact with the bolts to connect the panels to the ends of the combined tie and spreader members and also to clamp the panels together in edge to edge relation.
nited States Patent 0 In connection with use of a concrete wall form of the aforementioned type, it is necessary when the wall to be formed is to have a right angle bend to arrange certain of the panels of one series at right angles with respect to the other panels of the one series and corresponding ly to arrange the panels of the other series.
Heretofore difficulty has been experienced in positioningand connecting together in proper angular relationship the two'panels that serve to form the inside corner of the right angle bend in the concrete wall that is formed by-use of the form as a whole.
The present invention is designed to facilitate the 7 positioning and connecting of such angularly disposed panels and, toward this end, it contemplates the provision of a corner-forming unit in the form of an angle beam formed of flexible material and having side flanges,
which are capable of being flexed inwardly toward each other to decrease the angularity of the beam, the side flanges being provided with attachment and reinforcing bars along their free edges which, when the cornerforming unit is inposition at the corner of an installa-' tion, fit against the reinforcing frames of the two adjacent panels and are adapted to be secured thereto by an arrangement of head and shank variety bolt and wedge devices'similar to the previously described secur- 'ing devices employed for connecting the adjacent reinforeing'frarne members of aligned panels, the angle beam being capable of being flexed inwardly after the panels are removed at the conclusion of a wall forming operation to clear the adjacentprojecting ends of the tie and '2 spreader members associated with'the securing devices so that these ends may be fractured and removed.
A further object of the invention is to provide an inside -right angle corner forming unit of the type and character under consideration in which the angle beam has associated with it a rigid stamped metal substan tially U-shaped bracket which serves when the angle beam is in its operative position to prevent inward flexing or bending of the side parts of the beam and consist of: a flat intermediate piece which extends normally across the space between the reinforcing bars on the free side margins of the side parts of the beam; a first end part which extends at an angle of with respect to the intermediate piece,fits against, and is fixedly secured to, the inner side surface of oneof the reinforcing beams, and has in its central portion a longitudinally extending horizontal bolt-receiving slot in registry with the transverse open ended bolt-receiving hole in the one reinforcing bar, and a second end piece which extends at an angle of 135 with respect to the intermediate piece, fits slidably against the inner side surface of the other reinforcing bar, has in its central portion a longitudinally extending horizontal bolt-receiving slot that normally is in registry with the transverse open ended bolt-receiving hole in said other'reinforcing bar, and is adapted after removal of the bolt therefrom and inwardflexing of the side parts of the angle beam to slide inwards along the inner side surface of said other reinforcing bar.
A still further object of the invention is to provide an inside right angle corner forming unit which due to its particular design and construction is capable of being produced at a comparatively low cost.
Other objects of the invention and the various advantages and characteristics of the present inside right angle corner forming unit will be apparent from a consideration of the following detailed description.
The invention consists in the several novel features which are hereinafter set forth and are more particularly defined by the claims at the conclusion hereof.

Referring now to Fig. l, the corner forming unit of the present invention is employed for connecting together the adjacent vertical edge regions of a pair of upstanding panels 8 arranged at right angles to each other and held in position in a concrete form installation by conventional tie and spreader assemblies including tie rods 10, bolts 11 and wedges 12. The unit, together with corresponding rear panels 15, similarly ar ranged at right angles to each other, constitute a p01 tion of the concrete form for producing in the finished poured concrete wall 16 a right angle bend such as appears in Fig. 2. The panels 8 include rectangular facings 21 having wooden marginal reinforcing frames extending therearound, only the vertical members 23 of which have been shown herein. The members 23 are formed with notches 24 in register with notches 25 in the panel facings 21, the registering notches serving to receive the adjacent ends of the tie rods 10. The members 23 are formed with transverse holes 26 which intersect the notches 24 and receive the shank portions of the bolts 11.
The corner forming unit of the present invention includes an angle beam 19 which is positioned in the space between the inner side marginal portions of the panels 8 and is formed of flexible material such, for example, as laminated plastic. The side flanges 27 are formed integrally with, and extend at right angles to, one another. As shown in the drawings, the angle beam 19, when in its operative position, is so arranged that the outer surfaces of its side flanges or parts 27 are respectively in coplanar relation with the inner faces of the facings 21 of the panels 8. The side flanges 27 of the angle beam 19 are provided on the free or outer side margins thereof with vertically extending reinforcing bars 28. The latter are in the form of wooden beams of rectangular cross section and are the same in height as the angle beam. They extend inwards of, and at right angles to, the side flanges 27 and are fixedly secured in place by way of screws 29. The latter extend through holes in the free side margins of the side flanges 27 and into the adjacent portions of the reinforcing bars 28. When the angle beam 19 is in its operative position, the reinforcing bars 28 abut against the members 23 of the panel reinforcing frames 22. The outer side surfaces of the reinforcing bars 28 are provided with horizontal full width notches 30 which are disposed opposite to the notches 24 in the outer side surfaces of the members 23 and are adapted with said notches 24 to receive and accommodate the adjacent ends of the tie rods 10. The outer side edges of the side flanges 27 of the angle beam 19 are provided with notches 31 which are aligned and in communication with the inner ends of the notches 30 and are disposed directly opposite to the notches 25 in the adjacent side edges of the panel facings 21. The re inforcing bars 28 are provided with transversely extending open ended holes 32 which communicate with the central portions of the notches 30, are normally in alignment with the holes 26 in the frame members 23, and are adapted to receive the shanks of the bolts 11. By reason of the fact that the angle beam 19 is formed of flexible material the side flanges 27 are capable of being flexed or bent towards one another in connection with dismantlement of the angle beam. In order to prevent inward flexing of the side flanges 27 during use of the angle beam 19, the latter has associated with it a horizontally extending substantially lJ-shaped bracket 33. The latter is preferably in the form of a one piece metal stamping, extends between the reinforcing bars 28 and consists of a flat intermediate piece 34 and flat or straight end pieces 35 and 36. .The end piece 35 of the bracket 33 is longer than the end piece 36 and extends at an angle of with respect to the intermediate piece 34. It fits flatly against the inner side surface of one of the reinforcing bars 28 and is as long as the one reinforcing bar is wide. Screws 37 extend through holes 38 in the end portions of the end piece 35 and into the one reinforcing bar and serve fixedly to secure the long end piece in place. Said long end piece 35 is positioned in horizontal alignment with the transverse open ended hole 32 in the one reinforcing bar and embodies in its central portion a horizontal longitudinally extending slot 39 which is in alignment and communicating relation with said hole. The short end piece 36 of the bracket 33 extends at an angle of 135 with respect to the intermediate piece 34- and fits slidably against the inner side surface of the other reinforcing bar 28. It is shorter than the other reinforcing bar is wide and embodies in its central portion a horizontal longitudinally extending slot 40 which is in alignment and communicating relation with the transverse open ended hole 32 in said other reinforcing bar. When the side flanges 27 of the angle beam 19 are flexed inwards as shown in Figure 2, the shortend piece 36 of the bracket 33 slides inwards out of its normal position wherein, as shown in Figures 1 and 3, it fits flatly against the inner side surface of said other reinforcing bar. It is to be noted that the extreme end 50 of the short end piece 36 0f the bracket 33 is removed from the adjacent end of the slot 40 a distance which is less than the distance between the hole 32 (Fig. l) in the reinforcing bar 28 and the side flange 27 of the angle bar 19. By such an arrangement, the end 50 of the short end piece 36 is maintained clear of the side flange 27 so that the drawing action of the bolt 11 will not be impaired.
The tie rods 10 are formed with loops 41 defining bolt receiving apertures 42 for reception of the bolts 11. The bolts 11 are formed with flat tapered shanks 45 and integral laterally extending heads 46. When the bolts 11 are installed, they serve to hold the members 23 and reinforcing bars 28 in connected relation. The free ends of the shanks 45 are formed with slots 47 for reception therein of the wedges 12 which, when driven into the slots 47, serve to hold the bolts against horizontal displacement.
The inside right angle corner forming unit is assembled by first placing the angle beam 19 in an upstanding or vertical position on a suitable foundation and then arranging it so that its apex or corner extends in the proper direction. Thereafter, the panels 8 are arranged so that they extend vertically and are positioned at right angles to one another. After proper manipulation or arrangement of the panels 8 the latter are slid in the direction of the angle beam 19 until the frame members 23 thereof are brought into abutment with the reinforcing bars 28. At the conclusion of the last mention operation, the tie rods are shifted lengthwise until the apertures 42 at the inner ends thereof are in registry with the holes 26 and 32. After proper manipulation of the tie rods 10, the bolts 11 are positioned so that the shanks 45 thereof extend through the slots in the end pieces of the bracket 33, the holes 32 in the reinforcing bars 28, the apertures in the adjacent ends of the tie rods 10 and the transverse open ended holes 26 in the members 23 of the frames 22 of the panels 8. after the bolts 11 are inserted into place the wedges 12 are inserted through the slots 47 in the small ends of the shanks 45 of the bolts and then driven downwards so as to lock the bolts in place. Upon assembly of the inside right angle corner forming unit the other parts of the form are manipulated into place as shown in Figure 1. When the form as a whole is complete concrete in plastic or unset form is poured between the two series of edge to edge panels. After hardening of the concrete, the panels 8, and 15 are removed. Thereafter, the side flanges 27 of the angle beam 19 are flexed inwards into the position shown in Figure 2. As soon as the side flanges of the panels are flexed inwards, the adjacent projecting ends of the tie rods are twisted for fracturing purposes and then are removed from the adjacent portions of the right angle bend in the formed concrete wall. After removal of said adjacent projecting ends of the combined tie and spreader members the angle beam 19 is free so that it may be removed by shifting it away from the concrete wall.
The herein described inside right angle corner forming unit due to its particular design or construction eifectively and efficiently fulfills its intended purpose and is characterized by the fact that it may be installed and removed with facility and produced at a comparatively small cost.
The invention is not to be restricted to the details set forth since they may be modified within the scope of the appended claims without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention.
Having thus described the invention what we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. An inside right angle corner forming unit designed for use in connecting adjacent vertical panel-reinforcing frame side pieces in a wall form, said unit comprising an angle beam formed of flexible material and having side flanges capable of being flexed inwardly of each other to decrease the angularity of the angle beam, an inwardly extending reinforcing and attachment bar secured to and substantially coextensive with each free edge region of said angle beam, 2. pair of attachment holes formed in said attachment bars respectively and extending transversely therethrough at substantially the same elevation when said angle beam is interposed between the frame side pieces, an angle bracket bridging the distance between saidattachment bars and including end portions, one of which overlies the hole in one of said bars and is secured to the bar and the other of which overlies the hole in the other bar and is slidable thereagainst, said first end portion being formed with an opening therein in register with the hole in the bar to which said first end portion is attached, said other end portion being formed with a slot therein in register with the hole in the bar on which said second end portion is slidable, and an intermediate web portion connecting the end portions of said angle bracket.
2. An inside right angle corner forming unit as set forth in claim 1 wherein the extent of the slotted end portion of the angle bracket is substantially less than the width of the attachment bar on which it is slidable and wherein the distance between said slot and the adjacent end of the end portion of the angle bracket in which said slot is formed is less than the distance between the hole in the attachment bar on which said second end portion is slidable and the side flange to which said latter attachment bar is secured.
