A "NHL EVENT DR w fimzzm f UNITED STATES PATENT CFFICE.
HOWVARD L; WEED, OF GRASS VALLEY, CALIFORNIA.
SLATE-WASH ER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 296,092, dated April 1,1884.
' Application filed January 21, 1684. (No model.)
To whom it may concern:
keep the/moisture within the sponge for a Be itknown that I, HOWARD LAWRENCE considerable period of time.
WEED, a citizen of the United States, residing at Grass Valley, in the county of Nevada and State of California, have invented a new and useful Slate-WVasher, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide a means whereby the water can be readily applied to the face of the slate and immediately absorbed, leaving the face of the slate thoroughly cleansed and dry. This object I accomplish by means of the device illustrated in the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of my slate washer and wiper and containing-box. Fig. 2 is also a. perspective view with box or holder removed, and. Fig. 3 is a sectional view of the wiper and trough with washer attached. Fig. at is a perspective view of box.
Similar letters refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
, is made rounding, and to the lower face thereof is attached a claw or hooks, G, which are bent inwardly to receive and hold a sponge, H. When in position within the rectangular box, the shoulders I, formed by the top portion of the trough, rest upon the top edge of the box and form a comparatively tight joint, and
In practice, one end of the doubleended wiper of the pad is placed in the hollow trough or cup, and the sponge connected to the lower end of trough and wetted, when it is drawn across the face of the slate a sufficient number of times to wash it, and then the beveled sides of the pad follow the pad back and forth upon the face of the slate, which absorbs all the moisture left by the sponge, whereby the slate is made clean and dry, after which the spongecarrying cup or trough is returnedto therectangular box or holder, leaving the end of the pad or wiper exposed. By this means the pad will more readily and' quickly absorb the moisture, as the strips of cloth interposed between the layers of bibulous paper will keep the layers apart, and take up the moisture rapidly, while no leakage or dripping of water from the device takes place to annoy the user and wet the desk.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is 1. In a slate-washer, aninterchangeable pad beveled at both ends to form a point or wiper, 0, made compact and held together by a cord or clamp, substantially in the manner speci- 2. Ina slate washer and wiper, the hollow trough or cup to receive and hold the pad or wiper, with its lower end provided with clamp or hooks to receive and hold a sponge or washer, in combination with a box or holder for said washer, constructed and arranged in the manner as herein set forth and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand and seal.
HOWARD L. WEED. [L. s.]
