2 Claims. (Cl. 42-79) This invention relates to chokes for shotguns and more particularly to that type of a choke that can be adjusted rapidly for each shot.
An important object of this invention is the provision of a choke for semi-automatic shotguns having a nonrecoil barrel, the choke being instantly and positively adjusted by means of a lever located just above the trigger of the gun, in easy access to the operator.
Another object of this invention is the provision of a choke that can be attached to a shotgun without altering its muzzle.
Still another object of this invention is the provision of a choke that has a minimum number of parts and requires little or no skill to assemble to a shotgun.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter more fully described and pointed out in the claims, it being understood that changes may be made in the construction and arrangement of parts without departing from the spirit of the invention as claimed.

Similar reference characters refer to similar parts throughout the several views of the drawings.
Having reference now to the drawings in detail, and in particular to Figs. 2 and 3, there is generally indicated by the reference character 10 a shotgun having a barrel 11 to the muzzle 12 of which is secured a choke mechanism 13 by means of a screw 14. The stated choke mechanism 13 embodies a tubular member 15 having a slot 16, the depth of which is approximately two thirds its length. A pin 17 is secured on each side of and at the top of the slot 16 and near the closed end thereof,
as best shown in Fig. 3 of the drawings, for the reception of the forwarclportion of a triangular-shaped cam 18 to the large end of which is secured one end of a rod 19 that traverses the full length of the barrel 11 of shotgun 10. The stated rod 19 is encased throughout most of its length in a guide member 20 that is secured to the top of the shotgun barrel 11 by any desired means. The aforesaid guide member 20 may be of the tubular type, or may embody a plurality of upright guides 21 having a continuous top member 22 as shown in Figs. 1 and 5 of the drawings.
A lever 23 is secured to the top of the shotgun 10 by means of a shoulder screw 24 which is the pivoting point of the lever which contains an elongated opening 26 through which passes a pin 25 which is secured in the rear end of rod 19, as clearly shown in Fig. 9 of the drawings.
Looking at Fig. 4, it will be seen that the tubular member 15 contains the bore 27 that has a shoulder 28 in that end of the choke that is fitted over the muzzle of the gun, and is approximately the same diameter as the outside diameter of the barrel beyond the muzzle, the bore having a gradual contraction area terminating in a circular radius to a minimum choke at 29, and then increasing in a circular radius to its original diameter as noted by the reference character 30, on each side of the point of minimum choke.
A sight 31 is fixed to the front end of the tubular member 15, while guides 32 are fixed to the muzzle end of the stated tubular member, and on each side of the aforesaid rod 19, thus completing the construction of this invention.
The operation of this choke is obvious from an examination of Figs. 1, 2 and 3 of the drawings, wherein it can be seen that by moving the handle 33 of the lever 23 located just'above the trigger 34 of the shotgun, the rod 19 will obviously move forwardly or backwardly, thus opening or closing the tubular member 15 of the choke mechanism 13 by reason of the wedge-shaped cam 18 acting on pins 17.
From the foregoing it will not be seen that there is herein provided an adjustable choke for shotguns which accomplishes all of the objects of this invention, and others, including many advantages of great practical utility and commercial importance.
As many embodiments may be made of this inventive concept, and as many modifications may be made in the embodiment hereinbefore shown and described, it will be understood that all matter herein is to be interpreted merely as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.
What is claimed is:
l. A shotgun choke comprising a tubular body adapted for positioning over the muzzle end of a shotgun barrel, an annular internal shoulder extending inwardly from the surface of said body, said annular shoulder being spaced from one end of said tubular body providing a stop contacting the end of the barrel on which the choke is positioned for centering said choke, means for securing said body on said shotgun barrel against accidental displacement, said tubular body having a slot extending inwardly from the opposite end thereof, said slot terminating short of said annular shoulder providing split choke sections, spaced pins extending from the outer surface of said body and disposed on opposite sides of said slot, a triangular cam movable between said pins adapted to spread said split choke sections, spreading the choke of References Cited in the file of this patent UNITED STATES PATENTS 2,490,829 Noll Dec. 13, 1949 2,662,326 Powell Dec. 15, 1953 2,765,564- Schroeder Oct. 9, 1956 2,807,903 Wheeler Oct. 1, 1957
