  • the suspenders 18 may also be of stretch material to additionally afford ease of movement and further provide for vertical expandability of the garment 10.
  • the gathered waist portion 11, generally separating the upper portion 15 and the lower portion 25, is of stretchable fabric to allow for horizontal expansion. This portion may extend completely around the mid portion or waist section of the garment and as shown in FIG. 2, may extend across the back of the garment 10. Suitable stitching (not shown) is particularly adapted to join the upper portion 15 to the lower portion 25.
  • the lower portion 25 of the garment is adapted to envelop the lower body portion of an infant, and is comprised, at the front thereof, of two panels 26, 27 joined along the inner edges thereof by stitching to form a central front seam 28 extending from the upper portion 15 to the crotch area of the garment 10.
  • Said front panels 26, 27 extend downwardly to cover the legs, feet and toes of the infant.
  • An elastic tape .29 generally in the area where panels 26, 27 overlay the toes, is provided to form a toe covering portion 30.

  • the lower portion 25 of the garment at the rear thereof is provided with two rear panels 35, 36, secured at the top thereof to the waist portion ll of the upper portion 15, and extends downwardly to cover the lower part of an infants body.
  • Heel converting panels 37, 38 are secured to panels 35, 36.
  • 'Panels 35, 36 are joined along the inner edges thereof to form a central rear seam 39.
  • a moisture-proof panel 40 adapted to overlay the buttocks and crotch area of the body of an infant.
  • Front panel 26 is joined to rear panel 36 by a seam 41, and front panel 27 is similarly joined to rear panel 35 by a seam 42, said seams 41, 42 joining said panels 26, 36 and 27, 35 being limited only to the hip region of the infants body so that the remainder of the front panels and rear panels are entirely free of each other, enabling the front panels 26, 27 to be lifted, flaplike, as illustrated in FIG. 3 so that the infant placed therebetween may be entirely exposed.
  • a separable slide fastener 45 preferably of nylon, one fastener tape thereof secured by stitching 47 to the outer edge of panel 26 at the right side of the garment, from a point below seam 41, extending along the outer edge of panel 32, further extending along the edge of panel 26 at the inner leg section, continuing around the crotch area of the garment and the edge of panel 27,
  • the opposing tape 48 is secured by stitches 49 to the outer edge of panel 36 at the right side of the garment from a point below seam 41, extending along the outer edge of panel 38, further extending along the edge of panel 36 along the inner leg section, continuing around the crotch area of the garment, and the edge of panel 35, further continuing along edge of panel 37 and upwardly along the outer edge panel 35 at the left side of the garment and terminating at seam 42.
  • Slide fastener 45 is provided with two pull tab sliders 50, 50 for engaging the engageable elements 51 enabling the slide fastener 45 to be opened on either side of the garment 10. It will be evident from the foregoing that when the slide fastener 45 is locked, the entire lower portion is closed so as to envelop the lower body portion of the infant. When it is desired to open the garment, one pull tab slider, for example, the slider 50', is moved along the entire length of the fastener 45 so as to separate the front panels 26, 27 from the rear panels 35, 36. It will be further evident that when the front panels 26, 27 and rear panels 35, 36, are secured by the slide fastener 45, and the infant is in a position making it inadvisable to move him, one of the pull tab sliders may be used to open the garment. Likewise, where interior ventilation of the garment 10 is desired, one or both of the pull tabs 50, 50 may be lowered to partially open the garment 10 at either or both sides thereof.

  • At least more than one of said panels being so configured, dimensioned and arranged as to be particularly adapted to be disposed in overlying relationship -with a substantial portion of the torso of a child;
  • one of said panels being particularly adapted to be disposed generally fr-ontally of said garment, and the other of said panels being particularly adapted to be disposed generally rearwardly thereof;
  • said panels each of them defining an edge extending substantially completely of the periphery thereof, the periphery of said panels being particularly adapted to correspond with the periphery of those portions of a childs torso known as the hips, legs, pedes, and crotch portions, said portions being particularly adapted to be encompassed by said panels;
  • edges being particularly adapted to be structurally operatively associated with one another completely along the periphery thereof;
  • a continuous fastener assembly structurally operatively associated with said panels along the edges thereof, as defined by the distance between and along said hip portions, beneath said pedes portions and along said crotch portion, for structurally operatively as sociating one substantially completely with respect to the others;

  • one of said slide operators being operable from one of a plurality of termini of said edges, and another of said slide operators being operable from another of said plurality of termini, enabling access to be had to the interior of said garment from any one of a plurality of directions.

  • said panels each of them defining an edge extending substantially completely of the periphery thereof, the periphery of said panels being particularly adapted to correspond with the periphery of those portions of a childs torso known as the hip portions, leg portions, pedes portions and crotch portion, said portions being particularly adapted to be encompassed by said panels;
  • edges being particularly adapted to be structurally ope-ratively associated with one another completely along the periphery thereof;
  • a continuous fastener assembly structurally operatively associated with said panels along the edges thereof, as defined by the distance between and along said hip portions, beneath said pedes portions and along said crotch portion, for structurally operatively associat-ing one substantially completely with respect to the other;
