Description

UNTTED STATES PATENT QFFICEO THOMAS N. LE ROSS, OF ROCHESTER, NEW YORK.
MIXED PAINT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 319,984, dated June 16, 1885.
(No specimens.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, THOMAS N. Ln Ross, of the city of Rochester, in the county of Monroe and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement'in Fire- Proof Compositions; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same.
My invention consists in mixing, with apaint for the surfaces of wood or other combustible material, sulphate of magnesia and glue, substantially as hereinafter set forth, for fireproofing the said wood or material.
A suitable formula for making my improved fireproofing composition is as follows: sulphate of magnesia, six pounds; glue, three ounces; water, one gallon. The sulphate of magnesia is first thoroughly dissolved in the water. The glue is then added, and the. whole stirred until the glue is all dissolved and diffused through the mass, warnnng the water as much as necessary or desired for the purpose. A paint is then incorporated with the mixture substantially as follows: white lead, five pounds; linseed oil, one half pint. When thoroughly mixed, the entire material will be found to be of the proper consistence to lay on the surfaces with a brush, like ordinary paint. Any suitable or desired coloring material may be added to the mixture, and any equivalent of the white lead may be used for the body of the paint.
I do not intend to limit myself to the exact proportions of ingredients above specified, but to vary therefrom as may be found best or desirable.
I claim as my invention The fire-proof composition consisting ofsulphate of magnesia, glue, white lead, and oil, substantially as herein specified.
In witness whereof I have hereunto signed my name in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
