Definitions

  • the object of this invention is the creation of a new type of fiatiron offering special characteristics in that the vapor emitted during the ironing of the clothes is absorbed so that the articles become perfectly dry and ironed.
  • the surface of the iron has been provided with a number of perforations giving rise to a series of longitudinal and transversely arranged chambers on planes of difierent heights whose orifices collect the emitted vapor, avoid its condensation and facilitate its expulsion by virtue of the physical effect of convection currents.
  • FIG. 1 is a top perspective view partly broken away showing the interior of the fiatiron base plate chambers
  • FIG. 2 is a side elevation of the base plate with the top of the fiatiron indicated by dotted lines;
  • FIG. 3 is a top perspective view of the fiatiron base plate with the interior chambers thereof indicated by dotted lines;
  • FIG. 4 is a bottom view of the present fiatiron base plate.
  • FIG. 5 is a partial view of the front pointed end of the base plate as viewed from the top.
  • the present flatiron is of classical configuration, dimensions and materials, while it is possible to realize the constructional modifications to a normal fiatiron, that are included within this invention, or to provide an ordinary fiatiron with a new base plate 1 provided with the improvements herein specified in a permanent manner without altering the essential features of this patent.
  • Perforations 2 are provided in the face of the fiatiron arranged symmetrically and equally distant the one from the next, appropriately distributed to facilitate the absorption of the vapor provoked by the application of the hot fiatiron to the damp clothes.
  • Chambers 3 are situated transversely in said base plate of the fiatiron arranged in a parallel position approximately at a half of the height of the iron, which chambers are in intercommunication with those corresponding to the perforations previously described.
  • Longitudinal chambers 4 communicate with the transverse chambers 2 and 3, said combination forming an arrangement on planes of different heights.
  • This combination facilitates the passage of air currents together with those of the vapor, thus creating by reason of different specific gravities an autoventilation of the interior which undertakes the expulsion of the mentioned vapor automatically.
  • This arrangement of chambers avoids their obstruction and oxidization.
  • the object of the grooves being located at the front and side of the fiatiron is to permit the partial housing of buttons and the like and thus to simplify the ironing operation.
  • a base plate for electric fiatirons comprising a pointed end iron sole plate having a fiat bottom, sides, and ends and a plurality of chambers of annular cross-section extending normal to and opening in said plate flat bottom, a plurality of chambers of annular cross-sections extending longitudinally of the length of said sole plate and opening at their extremities in the ends of said sole plate, a plurality of chambers extending transversely of the width of said sole plate and opening in the sides of said sole plate, said normally extending chambers, said longitudinally extending chambers and said transversely extending chambers being in communication with one another and being situated in regular and symmetrical positions on diiferent planes within said sole plate whereby vapor from damp clothes being ironed are evacuated through said chambers from beneath said plate flat bottom completely drying the clothes.
