CORBLY, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
Aro Mizee.
.To @ZZ whom t may concern,.-
le it known that I. JOHN F. CORBLY, residing at Chicago, in the county el" Cook and Statcof Illinois, have invented certain new and usel'ul Improvements which thc following, iu connection with the accompanying drawings, is a specification.
l'n the drawings, Figure l isaside elevation oi' my improved atotnizer, showing the saine as arranged in a bottle containing Iiuid, the said bottle being shown in section. Fig. 2 is a vertical central cross-section of the ateniize Fig. 3 is a detail, the sume being a side vien' of the upper cud ot' the interior tube; and Fig. l is a front or end vieiv of the part shown iu Fig. 3.
Lilie letters ofrcference indicate like parts.
A represents au ordinary bottle, and a rep rcsents the tiuid contents of the bottle. l is the cork.Y
C a tube passing through the cork B, and l) is a horizontallyr arranged tubular top piece applied to the upper cud of the tube (l. Both cnds ol' the top piece, D, are open, and oneend thereoi' is contracted, as shown at b, and has therein an annular' shoulder, c. ll is a tube arranged within the tube C, and baving a smaller diameter than the latter tube, thus leaving between the tubes U and E an air-space, rl. The upper end of the tube .ll enters the top piece, l), and is bent over horizonlally, and enters the contracted part or endv oi' thc said top piece, as is clearly indicated i n Fig. 2. The tubes C and E are connected at the lower end ot the tube C, by prcllrrcnce, either by soldering or otherwise; but this connection need not be a rigid eonnection. Y
lhe upper end ot' the tube ll, will be perceived, docs not entirely till the Contracted end ot' the top piece, i), a space, e, being .lel't between the said parts. The upper end ot' the tube lf] has in it deep spiral cuts or notches/"W, as is clearly indicated at Figs. 3 and l, and the lower cud ot' the tube C has in it slits, ports, or openings y; y.
"lhe device non' described I arrange in a bottle by inserting' it vertically through the eorl:7 an opening being made therein suit.'- eient to receive the tube (l, with suthcient in -/Xtolnizers, of

pressure or friction to hold or suspend the atomizer in the bottle, the bottom ofthe tube E being, by preference, but a little way above I the bottoni of the bottle. To use the device, place the large eudol" the top piece, l), in the mouth and blow into the same. By this means the air, entering the top piece under more or less pressure passes down through the tube C and around thetube E and out ol' the ports r/f/ into the upper part ofthe bottle, there creatinga sullicient degreeof' air-pressure to force the liquid contents of the bottle up through and out ot' the tube E. Asthe tluid or liquid passes out -ot'thc upper end ot' that tube it has a spira-l or twisted movement imparted to it, owing to the spirality ot' the cuts or notchesff, and at the saine time the. air, escaping from the c011- ltracted end ol' the toppiec'c, D, impinges upon I the escaping fluid and converts it into sp1-ay. The device now described may be employed either as an atomizer for colognebottles, Vor for sprinkling tobacco or for sprinkling clothes, and for various like or similar pufrposes. The tluid ejected will be ejected in'af comparatively large volume and to a con1- paratively long distance. l
The device is simple in its construction and operation, is cheap and durable.
The device can also be used in spraying I flowers, and for disiniecting purposes, with liquid or powder.
Having thus described my invention, what l claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters li Patent, ist I l. An atomizer consisting of the combina l l l l i i tion ola tube, E, having in its upper end the spiral cuts or notehesff, the tube or top piece, l), having` a contracted end entered by the upper end of the tubeiE, andthe outer tube, (j, having at or near its lower endl the open-l I ings or pertsgg, substantially as and for the i purposes specified. The combination, in au atoinizer, of the horizontally arranged tube D,open at both ends, the depending tube U, open at or near its lower end, and the interior tube, E, entering the tube D, and bent horizontally vat its upper end, so that the said end shall bc arranged, substantially as shown, with relation ICO to the educ-tion or discharging.; end of the l mbe D, substuutially as und for the purposes Specified.
3. Au atomizer in which the upper end 0f 5 thedschargingtuhe has Spiral Cuts or notches7 Yv'itnesses: substuntmly as and for the purposes spee- HENRY ]"1:.\.\'Kxfum`1a1:,

Il; teStimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I hereto a'ix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
