PORTABLE RACK FOR SC'ALES.
SPECIPICATION'Iorming part of Letters Patent No. 329,100, dated October 2'7, 18
Application filed June 16, 1885. Serial No. 168,849. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we, CHARLES H. TILL- MEYER and GEORGE W. BOLTON, of Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of Wisconsin, have invented a new and useful Portable Scale-Back; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of said invention, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters or figures of reference marked there on, which form a part of this specification.
Our inventio11to be hereinafter distinctly claimedis of a portable rack to be used on platform-scales. This rack is intended for use with platform-scales to receive and hold articles to be weighed which are bulky and not otherwise conveniently supported on the scales.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of our invention resting on the platform of the scales and in position for use. Some of the bars are broken away, showing other parts of the device. Fig. 2 is an end view of the rack folded up and removed from the scales.
The same letters refer to like parts in both the views.
This rack consists of two series, A and B, of parallel bars, a a a and b b I), with alternate spaces between the bars, which spaces are of the same width as the Width of the bars, and are intended and adapted for the reception and interlacing of the respective bars of the two parts of the rack. These bars in each of the two parts A and B, at their outer ends, are
attached together by a rod, a, passing crosswise through their ends, the bars being separated from each other by blocks (1 d between them. At their inner ends the bars of the two parts A and B, except the outside bars, a a and b b, interlace and pass alternately by each other, and are pivoted together by a rod, 6, passing crosswise through them, on which rod they swing as on a pivot. The outside bars, a and b, are opposite to each other, re 5 spectively, in the parts A and B, and terminate opposite to the pivotal rod 0, and are hinged together there.
Vhen not in use, the rack may be folded together (swinging on the rod 6) and conveniently removed. Orosswise of the bars, on the under side of each of the two seriesAand B, are the downwardly-extending supportingblocks ff. The block f is rigid on the bars a a, while the block f is movably and adj ustably attached, by means of the set-screws g g, to the bars in series B, having an outward and inward movement thereon; but both blocks f and f may be made movable and adjustable,
if desired. Each of these blocks is provided with a rigid downwardly-extending and inwardly-bent arm, t, forming a groove, j, adapted to receive the edge of the platform 7c of the scales h. The rack is supported on the scales by resting on these blocks f and f, and the edge of the platform is clasped and the rack held thereto by the bent arms t 1'.
What we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The bipartite scale-rack constructed of parallel bars, the two parts interlacing with each other and pivoted together by a cross-rod, and having supportingblocks provided with clasps for grasping and retaining the rack on the scales, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof we afifix our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
