Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ADAM MAURER, OF SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS.
DOOR-CHECK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 330,138, dated November 10, 1885. Application filed April 11, 1885. Serial No. 161,983. (Modeh) To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ADAM MAURER, of San Antonio, Bexar county, Texas, have invented a new and Improved Door-Holder,of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of my invention is to provide a new and improved device of simple construction for holding the door open when desired, and which device does not interfere with the opening and closing of the door.
The invention consists in the combination, with a jaw provided with a pocket having an opening in its bottom, of a pivoted bar having a bead or nipple, which bar is passed through the pocket, and of a spring held in the pocket-jaw and resting on the bar.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure l is a plan'view of my improved door-holder. Fig. 2 is a face view of the same. Fig. 3 is a cross sectional elevation of the same.
The plate A is secured to the door frame or casing B near the floor, and from the said plate a flat jaw, 0, projects horizontally, the top of the jaw being provided with alug. D, projecting toward the door. In the said jaw a pocket or opening, E, is formed, which extends from one side edge to the other, and through the said pocket a flat bar, F, is passed, which is pivoted to jaws G, projecting from a plate, H, secured on the door I, near the pivoted edge. In the bottom of the pocket E an opening, J, is formed for receiving a tapered or beveled nipple or teat, K, projecting from the under side of the bar F. Aflat spring, L, is secured to the under side of the lug D, at the outer end, 0
and restsuponthebarF. Anadjusting-screw, M, in the lug D has its lower end rested on the spring L, and is used to adjust the same. When the door is being opened or closed, the bar F slides through the pocket E, and when the nipple or teat K enters the pocket it is pressed into the aperture J by the spring L, and thus the bar F is held and holds the door.
By exerting sufficient power the nipple can be pulled out of the aperture J, and the bar F can then slidein the pocket.
The spring L, resting on the fiat bar F, produces sufficient friction to prevent the door swinging too easily, and by means of the screw M the spring L can be adjusted to exert the desired pressure on the bar F.
The door can be held opened more or less by arranging the teat or nipple K different distances from the ends of the bar F.
The abovedescribed device is very simple, strong, effective, and durable, and can be applied any desired distance above the floor.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. In a door-holder, the combination, with the jaw 0, having a pocket, E, provided with an aperture, J, of the jaw G and the pivoted bar F, having a nipple or teat, K, substantially as herein shown and described.
2. In a door'holder, the combination, with the jaw 0, having a pocket, E, provided with an aperture, J, of the spring L and the pivoted bar F, having a nipple or teat, K, substantially as herein shown and described.
I ADAM MAURER.
