SEAT FASTENER FOR VEHICLES. No. 330,876., Patented Nov. 24, 1885.
WITNESSES v INVENTOR ATTORNEYS NY PETERS. Pholo-Lilhcgmpher. Washingfium 0.0.
NITED STATES annr EDWIN S. DAVIS, OF WINONA, MINNESOTA.
SEAT-FASTENER FOR VEHICLES.
'EPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 330,876, dated November 24, 1885.
Application filed April 7, 1885. Serial No. 161,446. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, EDWIN S. DAVIS, a citizen of the United States, resident at Winona, in the county of Winona and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Seat-Fastenings for Wagons; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letter or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Figure l of the drawings is a representation of this invention, and shows a side view of one of the fasteners, the portion of the wagon being in section. Fig. 2 is a front view of the fastener. Fig. 8 is a detail view. Fig. 4 is a detail View.
This invention has relation to wagon-seat fasteners; and it consists in the construction and novel arrangement of devices, all as hereinafter set forth, and pointed out in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawings, the letter A designates the bottom of a wagon-box, and B, the side wall thereof.
0 is a bearing plate, which extends up the side of the box and is bolted thereto, as at D. It is provided with a foot-flange, E, which .is bolted to the bottom A. The upper end of the plate 0 is formed with an offset, F, having the perforated bearing-studs G G in front and rear, and between the same a passage, H. This upper end or head, K, serves to receive the oblique tongue of the seat-plate L.
S indicates the seat, having the riser N, to the front portion of which is secured the plate L, the lower end of which is extended in oblique form forward and downward, and is slightly curved forward at its lower end, forming the tongue Z, which enters the head of the bearing-plate 0 between the front and rear studs thereof. At the rear portion of the riser is secured the rear tongue-plate, V, which extends downward vertically to engage the bracket-bearing J. Then the riser rests on the top of the side of the box, the tongues Z and V project below the lower edge of said riser and on the inside of the box-wall to engage the bearings of said box-wall. In placing the seat, the oblique front tongues are first entered in their bearings and then the rear portion of the seat is brought down, the rear tongues thus coming into engagement with their bearings.
I am well aware that the devices used in the rear portion of the seat are old, and I do not, therefore, claim them, broadly.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a wagon-seat fastening, the combination of the bearing-plate 0, having the foot-flange E, and its upper end provided with the offset F, having the perforated bearing-studs G G in front and rear, with a passage, H, between them, and the seat having the plate L, provided with the forward and downwardly curved tongue Z at its lower end, adapted to enterthe said bearing-plate between the front and rear studs thereof, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof Iaffix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
EDWIN S. DAVIS.
