Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ABEL ASI-IALD, OF GARRETTSVILLE, OHIO.
IMPROVED CAMP-STOOL.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 33,286, dated September 17, 186i.
To all whom, zit nur/y concern:
Be it known that l, ABEL ASHALD, ot Garrettsville, in the county ot' Portage and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Camp Stools; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, in whichf` Figure l is a side elevation of my improved stool. Fig. 2 is a perspective view ot` the same folded up. Fig. 3 is a side elevation showing it in position for a pillow or headrest.
Similar letters of reference indicate correspending parts in the several figures.
The subject of this invention is a campstool constructed in suoli a manner that it can be folded up into the most compact form, so as to be conveniently carried about in the hand; or by a simple adjustment it can b3 made avery good pillow or rest for the head of a person in a recumbent posture; or the seat can be reversed so as to admit ot' either side being used at the will of the user.
To enable others skilled in the art to fully understand and construct my invention, I will proceed to describe it.
A A represent the legs of the stool, of which there'are four ot' the same size and shape, crossing each other in the same manner as the legs of a common saw-horse, and
fastened together by screws a d passing together by rounds or braces b b for the purpose of giving greater strength and stability tothe stool. The seat O is attached on the inside of the legs by four screws c c passing laterally through the top of each leg into the seat. The top and bottom ot' the seat are hollowed out alike so that by reversing the seat either side can be used. By turning the seat over a quarter ot' a turn the legs and seat are brought in a line with each other, and the whole made so as to occupy but little room.
NVhen it is desired to form a pillow or headrest for a person in a recumbent position, the seat is inclined and secured in position by tightening the screws l) b, or when not convenient to do that a stick placed between the legs and seat will answer the same purpose.
lith the exception ot Vsix iron screws the stool is made entirely of wood and wholly by machinery, and it can be folded in such a manner as to preclude the possibility ofbeing broken or in ju red in packing large numbers together for transportation.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as'new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The seat A, pivots a d, legs B D, slots e e, Aand screws ZJ, combined, arranged, and operating in the manner described.
. ABEL ASHALD.
