Definitions
- a method and apparatus for electrically operating elements, such as yarn brakes, yarn cutting devices, windolf accessories and feed mechanisms, mounted within or on a yarn package carrier comprises inductively transmitting the necessary AC electrical voltage across an air gap needed for ballooning yarn thereby permitting the external control of the above-mentioned elements.
- the primary of a transformer is mounted on a balloon limiter or on a separator and opposite this primary, in the yarn package carrier, a corresponding secondary of the transformer is installed with the primary and secondary components of the transformer being in reciprocal relation with one another across the air gap for the ballooning yarn.
- the present invention relates to a method of and apparatus for the operation of a multiple twist, spinning, slubbing or like machine.
- This problem is solved according to the invention by means of a method which comprises influencing the controllable functional elements electrically and transmitting inductively across an air gap for the ballooning yarn. This is done by means of an AC voltage and preferably with more than 50 c./s., even though frequencies up to or above 20 kc./s. can be used.
- the alternating current may have a sinusoidal curve or consist of individual pulses which can have for example sawtoothor square form.
- the method according to the invention provides on the one hand a central setting of the controllable functional elements from one place and on the other hand it is possible to act on the particular control elements individually.
- brakes for example must be set laboriously at each spindle e.g. brakes for the twist-flyer and for the yarn, it is now possible to bring this about in a simple way by varying the voltage centrally and it is also possible, in certain cases, to act individually on each spindle. Obviously group actuations are also possible.
- yarn as used herein is intended to include, where the context permits, a roving, slubbing or other filamentary or stranded material.
- ap paratus in which, on the machine frame, for example 3,410,071 Patented Nov. 12, 1968 on a balloon limiter or on the separator, at a suitable height, the primary of a transformer is provided.
- the primary consists of at least one winding on an iron core.
- Opposite to this primary there is provided in the yarn package carrier the correspondingly installed secondary of the transformer.
- the two parts are in respective relation over the air gap necessary for the transit of the yarn.
- one such transformer is provided; in certain circumstances it is also possible to arrange several such transformers on the periphery which are then connected in each case to a controllable functional element. It may be expedient to connect a rectifier between the functional elements and the secondary of the transformer, in order that DC motors or even DC-supplied magnets can be attached.
- the terminals of the secondary of the transformer can be applied to an electromagnetically excited yarn brake; they can also be applied to an electromagnetic brake for a rotating draw-off accessory, for example a twist-flyer, and in these instances it is also possible to work with a rectified voltage.
- a yarn cut-ofl device can also be operated.
- Such a severing arrangement can advantageously be put under the influence of a yarn controller or of a bobbin thickness measurer. Moreover operation from a central point or by hand at each spindle is possible.
- the invention also makes it possible to provide, inside the yarn supply package carrier, a yarn feed or drawing mechanism.
- a yarn feed or drawing mechanism By means of the feed mechanism it is possible to apply positive traction to the yarn in the input tube and thus to exclude variations in tension of the yarn, which result from withdrawal from the supply package and effect a rotation stop.
- the drawing mechanism is conveniently used in connection with a multiple spinning spindle.
- DC motors can also be provided.
- the trunnion 5 of the package carrier 4 fits into a double bearing 6.
- the package carrier 4 is formed in a known way so that it can accept the sleeve 7 of the supply package 8.
- a separator (not shown) can also be provided.
- the primary 12 of a transformer For carrying out the process according to the invention there is provided, on the balloon limiter 10, the primary 12 of a transformer. It consists of the coil 13 which is found on an M-section iron core 14.
- the secondary of the transformer provided in the static supply package carrier 4 consists of the coil 15 and the core 16. These two transformer components are in reciprocal relation with one another across the air gap 17 for the ballooning yarn.
- the air gap 17 serves to give free passage to the yarn 11 for balloon formation. If instead of balloon'limiters 10 only separators are used the primaries of the transformers can be installed therein.
- Such yarn brakes can take for example the form of a cartridge brake which has a brake cartridge which lies between two brake rings.
- the brake cartridge 20 is located between. the two ring bodies
- the lower "ring body 19 is provided with atube i l oad of the cartridge.
- The'ring' body 19 is moreover under the influeri'ce'of the spring "23.
- the ring 19 can be'moved against the pressure of the spring 23.
- the coil 22 is cbnnected via the leads 24 with the secondary of the transformer,
- FIGURE 2 the'brake itself'jis shown.
- The'br'a'ke ring 19 is however in this case not underthe influence 4 'Off a press'ure spring but is provided with a permanent magnet ring2 which is axially magnetized. According to the strength of the like pole excitation ofthe coil 22 the ring 19 is pressed more orless strongly against the cartridge and thus varies the braking effect.
- i citation coil 26 which displaces the yarn clamping shoe 27 which is made of permanent magnet material and is rhoveable at right angles to the course of the yarn 11.
- the yarn clamping shoe is axially magnetized and its surface is provided with a wear-resistant coating 28.
- the yarn '11 is braked between this clamping shoe and a corresponding extrusion 29 in the yarn passage.
- FIGURE 4 the arrangement of the cartridge brake is carried out in such a way that the upper brake ring 18 is moveable against the pressure of a spring 23.
- the lower brake ring 19 is likewise axially moveable and bears against a cam-disc 201 which can be actuated by a step-by-step motor 202.
- the curve of the cam is closed so that the height of the brake ring 19 can be altered at will by movement in either direction.
- the step-by-step motor 202 receives only switching pulses which are supplied through the transformer. This has the advantage that a continuous consumption of current is avoided.
- a step-by-step motor a step-by-step switching device or a step-by-step switching relay can be used. 2 v
- a yarn cutting device can be provided. It consists of an electromagnet 30 which is arranged in the'wall of the package carrier 4 and which'is fed through a rectifier (not shown) from the transformer.
- a bolt 31 is fitted in the balloon limiter 10 .
- This bolt 31 consists conveniently of permanent magnet material and is so magnetized that it can be moved against spring pressure under the influence of the electro; magnet provided on the packagecarrier.
- the coil,of the. electromagnet 30 can here be put under the influence of a tell-tale such that the magnet reacts as soon as the yarn breaks. It can also be under the influence of a bobbin caliper and bring about the yarn severing whena predetermined bobbin diameter is reached.
- the length of the bolt 31 is so chosen that it can completelyclose the gap 17 and thus sever the filament 11 with certainty, v
- twist-flyer 32 As a wind-off accessory a twist-flyer 32 is shown.
- This twist-flyer 32 is fitted to a boss 35 mounted rotatably on the yarn input tube 9.
- the lower surface of the boss is provided with a braking-surface 36 made of. permanent magnet material, on which acts the electromagnet 37 which is energized through the leads 24 and fromthe rectifier from the transformer. According to the strength of actuation of the electromagnet 37 the twist-.
- twist-flyer 32 is attracted. more or .less strongly overits braking surface 36 and braked. By reversing the polarity of magnet 37 the twist-flyer 32 can be held in suspension and easier running is thus obtained.
- FIGURE 6 an embodiment is represented in which in.;the;1jeg io n (Illsthe yarn: input tube 9' a feed mechanism is provided.
- This. feed mechanism consists of the electromotor 38 with the gear 39 which drives a pair of rollers which-serves for positively "dra win'g the-yarn into the spindl'eilrl' this way tension fluctuations, Whichcan give unequal withdrawal of the yarmfro'rn the bobbin 8, are evenedou t. consequence of the uniform withdrawal and of the -uniform subsequent supply the balloon later formed is exceptionally smooth-The current for the motor 38 is supplied through the leads 24 and rectifier 240 from the transformer 12/16.
