Definitions
- the slotted yarn guide is mounted in a releasable manner on the slidable support through means of the cooperating thin flexible connecting member of the slotted yarn guide and the mating projections on the support.
- the slidable support is made of a synthetic material to absorb the wear and tear of the sliding movements on the rails and to be disposed of separately from the slotted yarn guide.
- This invention relates to a traverse yarn guide. More particularly this invention relates to a traverse yarn guide for winding-on devices for continuous filaments.
- yarn guides of the above type have usually been made of one-piece elements which are slidably mounted on fixed guide rails. Because of the normal relative sliding between the yarn guide and the fixed guide rails, wear and tear has required the replacement of the guide rails or, in the more advantageous manner since the guide rails have been difiicult to replace, the replacement of the yarn guide.
- the yarn guides have usual- 1y been made of expensive materials such as a ceramic material, frequent replacement of these yarn guides has not been feasible economically. Further, in many instances, the yarn guides have been difiicult to replace due to their structural configuration and connection with the guide rails.
- the invention provides a traverse yarn guide which is adapted to be slidably mounted on fixed guide rails and a slotted yarn guide which is detachably locked on the support for slidable movement therewith.
- the support is made of a relatively inexpensive extrudable or sprayable synthetic material which has the properties of being light in weight so as to reduce accelerative forces due to inertia to a minimum and of being slidable on the guide rails.
- the material of the support is such relative to the guide rails so that the support is subjected to the wear and tear of the sliding of the support on the guide rails rather than the guide rails.
- the slotted yarn guide is provided with a slotted member of ceramic material for contacting a yarn and a flat connecting member for detachably mounting the slot member on the support in a manner to ensure sufiicient stability in the direction 3,502,282 Patented Mar. 24, 1970 of traverse motion while also allowing an ease of detachability.
- FIG. 1 illustrates a side view of a traverse yarn guide of the invention
- FIG. 2 illustrates a plan view of the traverse yarn guide of FIG. 1;
- FIG. 3 illustrates a perspective view of a support of the traverse yarn guide and a pair of fixed guide rails
- FIG. 4 illustrates a perspective view of a slotted yarn guide according to the invention.
- the traverse yarn guide 1 includes an H-shaped support 2 defining a pair of guideways 3 for slidably receiving stationary guide rails 4 when the support 2 is mounted on the rails 4.
- the inner dimensions of the guideways 3 are such as to permit the support 2 to slide easily on the guide rails 4.
- the support 2 is of any suitable extrudable or moldable synthetic material which has slide properties and which is of light weight such that the wear of sliding on the rails 4 occurs on the support 2 and not on the more expensive, more difiicult to replace, guide rails 4.
- the support 2 is constructed in a manner so as to be capable of being readily removed and disposed of upon attaining a certain degree of wear.
- the support 2 also has an extension 5 on the rear surface which serves as a cam follower so that a traverse motion can be imparted to the support from a suitable drive source (not shown). Additionally, the support 2 has a pair of lateral lugs 8 projecting from the front surface, each of which has an upwardly projecting cam 9, as well as a slightly downwardly inclined clamping lug 10 centrally between and slightly above the lugs 8.
- the traverse yarn guide 1 also includes a slotted yarn guide consisting of a yarn guide 7 which is rigidly mounted on a generally triangularly shaped connecting member 6.
- the connecting member 6 is made of a thin sheet of lightweight metal such as a high tensile aluminum alloy and is sized of a thickness so as to he slid in between the lugs 8 and clamping lug 10.
- the connection piece 6 contains two holes 11, 12 which are spaced apart a distance corresponding to the distance between the cams 9 on the lugs 8.
- the connecting member 6 In order to mount the slotted yam guide on the support 2, the connecting member 6 is inserted between the lugs 8 and the clamping lug 10 until the holes 11, 12 are aligned over the cams 9, thereafter, the lugs 8 are flexed so that the cams 9 can be snapped into the holes 11, 12. In this position of securement, the connecting member 6 bends the lugs 8 and clamping lug 10 slightly downwardly or upwardly due to the forces imposed'by the insertion of the connecting member 6. The snap locking of the connecting member 6 in the support 2 is easily accomplished manually without the use of tools due to the deformable elasticity of the lugs 8, 10. The connecting member can be detached from the support 2 in a reverse manner in as simple a manner.
- the invention thus provides a traverse yarn guide which permits the relatively expensive yarn guide to be repeatedly used while the relatively inexpensive yarn guide support is disposed of after being subjected to a predetermined degree of wear.
- a traverse yarn guide comprising a slotted yarn guide having a yarn guide of wear resistant material for guiding a yarn and a fiat connecting member rigidly secured to said yarn guide;
- a support of lightweight slidable synthetic material for slidable mounting on at least one fixed guide rail said support including a plurality of outwardly projecting spaced elastically deformable lugs, said lugs resiliently and elastically receiving and holding said connecting member therebetween in detachable engagement with said support.
- a traverse yarn guide comprising a slotted yarn guide of wear resistant material having a yarn guide thereon for guiding a yarn and a fiat connecting member rigidly secured to said yarn guide,
- a support of lightweight slidable synthetic material for slidable mounting on at least one fixed guide rail said support including a pair of outwardly projecting spaced elastically deformable lugs, and a clamping lug positioned above and between said pair of deformable lugs and being directed in a downwardly inclined outward direction, said pair of deformable lugs and clamping lug deformably receiving and holding said connecting member therebetween in detachable mounting relation on said support.
- each of said deformable lugs has an upwardly projecting cam thereon, and said connecting member has a pair of spaced holes receiving said cams therein in locking relation.
