Definitions

  • Apparatus for winding webs of paper includes a first guide means which holds a spindle assembly after a web of paper being wound about it reaches a certain size, and a second guide means which holds the spindle assembly before the roll'forrned by the web reaches that size and delivers it to the second guide means. Consequently a continuous web may be successively rolled onto the spindles of successive spindles assemblies.
  • the invention relates to an apparatus for continuously winding a web of paper or the like delivered by a processing machine, for example a printing machine.
  • Apparatus in which the web to be wound is guided between two carrying rollers which drive the wound roll and such apparatus has the advantage of very quiet winding, since the wound roll is automatically pressed against the carrying rollers. Moreover, an extremely tight and firm winding can be performed. However, it is a disadvantage that in such apparatus the Wound roll cannot be removed and replaced during continued operation of the apparatus.
  • one of the carrying rollers co-operates in known manner with a spindle transferring device and is mounted with provision for horizontal displacement, and when the carrying roller is withdrawn, a driven auxiliary roller can be introduced between the two carrying rollers, the web -being guided between the auxiliary roller and the displaceable carrying roller.
  • the spindle transferring device can take the form of a pair of forks or displaceable guide in known manner, as disclosed in German patent specification No. 1,137,916 in dependence on the loads occurring.
  • the auxiliary roller is in driving connection with the stationary carrying roller.
  • FIGS. 1 to 3 are diagrammatic side elevations of the apparatus in three different working phases.
  • the web 1 runs over a deflecting roller 7 and then over an auxiliary roller 8 at some distance from the roller 7 (see 'FIG. 1).
  • a fixed carrying roller 9 which is driven by any suitable motor or drive mechanism the web 1 finally runs on to the roll 10 on which the Web is wound.
  • the wound roll 10 is mounted on a spindle 11 retained in bearings 12, .13 supported on both sides by rollers 14, 15 which run in vertical guides 16, 17 in the form of channels in the machine frames 18, 19 on both sides.
  • the bearings 12, 13 move progressively higher in the guides 16, 17.
  • the wound roll 10 can then be lifted out together with the spindle 11.
  • auxiliary roller 8 In the working phase illustrated in FIG. 1 the auxiliary roller 8 has been pivoted into a stand-by position.
  • the auxiliary roller 8 is mounted on a pair of rocking levers 20, 21 which can pivot around the shaft v22 of the carrying roller 9.
  • the auxiliary roller 8 and the carrying roller 9 are kinetically interconnected by a driving chain 23.
  • a parting blade 24 can be moved by means of a pair of levers 25, 26 around the pivot 27 of the auxiliary roller -8.
  • Lateral members 29, 30 are guided for displacement in the horizontal direction in FIGS. 1 to 3 on both sides on a base block 28. The lateral members 29, 30 are shown in FIG. 1 withdrawn from the working zone.
  • the lateral members 29, 30 bear a second carrying roller 31 which is driven by a motor or any suitable drive mechanism and guide blocks 32, 33 for spindle bearings 34, 35 which are supported with provision for vertical displacement by rollers 38, 39 running in guides 36, 37.
  • Discs 40, 41 are driven from the carrying roller 31 via V-belts 44, 45 tensioned by means of tensioning discs 42, 43.
  • the discs 40, 41 bear against the spindle 46 which bears a sleeve 47, and bring the latter to a peripheral speed corresponding to the speed of the web.
  • the spindle 46 In the prepared working position, the spindle 46 is located in its position by stops 48, 49 disposed on the lateral members 29, 30 and by stops 50, 51 disposed on the guide blocks 32, 33.
  • the discs 40, 41 and the tensioning discs 42, 43 are mounted in bearing members 54, 55 which can be pivoted around the pivot 52 of the carrying roller 31 by means of a hydraulic adjusting member 53.
  • FIG. 2 shows that phase of operation in which the wound roll 10 has just reached the required diameter and the Web 1 has been parted by the parting blade 24.
  • the hydraulic adjusting member 53 pivots back the V-belt drive with the V-belts 44, 45 the tensioning discs 42, 43 and the drive discs 40, 41 for the spindle 46.
  • the abutment for the spindle 46 and the bearings 34, 35 is therefore removed, so that the latter drop in the guides 36, 37 together with the spindle 46 on to the auxiliary roller 8, which has in the meantime been brought into the correct position.
  • the sleeve 47 disposed on the spindle 46 is wound around with a strip which sticks on both sides, and its peripheral speed corresponds to the web speed, the fresh end of the web immediately sticks to the sleeve 46 and is wound.
  • the drive of the sleeve 47 on which the fresh wound roll 56 as shown in FIG. 3 is formed, is now performed by rolling down over the driven auxiliary roller 8, as shown in FIG. 2. In the meantime the wound roll 10 can be removed from the apparatus.
  • the displaceable carrying roller 31 takes over the drive of the wound roll 56, and the auxiliary roller "8 is pivoted out of the plane of the carrying rollers 9, 31, so that the lateral members 29, 30, the carrying roller, and the guide blocks 32, 33 together with the wound roll 56 retained in the bearings 34, 35 can be displaced in the direction of the machine frames 18, 19 on both sides and the carrying roller 9.
  • the displacement of the lateral members 29, 30 has reached its final position, in which the guide blocks 32, 33 fit into corresponding recesses in the machine frames 18, 19.
  • the guides 16, 17 form a vertical continuation of the guides 36, 37 and the bearings '34, 35of the spindle 46 move, as a result of the increasing diameter of the wound roll 56, upwardly out of guides 36, 37 and into guides 16, 17.
  • the lateral members 29, 30 are driven back into their starting positions, so that the bearings 12, 13 released with the removal of the Wound roll can again be introduced into guide members 32, 33, to receive the released spindle 11 with a newly slipped-on sleeve, thus preparing the whole apparatus for the next change of roll.
  • An apparatus for continuously winding a web of paper or the like delivered by a processing machine comprising (a) a machine frame,
  • first guide means on said machine frame adapted to cooperate with complementary means on said bearing blocks to locate the spindle assembly with said spindle extending horizontally and to permit insertion of the spindle assembly at the lower end of said guide means, vertical movement of the: spindle assembly in said guide means and removal of the spindle assembly at an upper end of said guide means,
  • Second guide means in said lateral frame below the level of said first guide means adapted to co-operate with complementary means on hearing blocks of a second spindle assembly to locate said second spindle assembly with said spindle extending horizontally and to permit insertion and removal of the spindle assembly into and from said second guide means at an upper end thereof and to permit vertical movement of said second spindle assembly in said guide means,
  • a driven auxiliary roller movable from a position in which, in one position of said lateral frame it can engage a web roll in said spindle assembly in said second guide means of a diameter smaller than said predetermined diameter and a position in which it is spaced from said roll, said lateral frame being displaceable from a first position in which said second guide means is horizontally spaced from said first guide means to allow insertion of said spindle assembly in said second guide means while a web roll is being wound on an identical spindle assembly on said first guide means, to a second position in which said second means is aligned with said first guide means to allow vertical displacement of said second spindle assembly from said second guide means to said first guide means.
  • auxiliary roller is rotatably mounted between a pair of levers pivoted in said machine frame about the rotary axis of said first carrying roller.
  • first and second guide means comprises a pair of vertically extending channels on opposite sides of the apparatus, and said compiementary means on said bearing blocks comprise vertically aligned upper and lower rollers adapted to engage in said channels.
