Definitions

  • This invention relates to an appliancefor binding cable assemblies etc. by means of a strap, whose ends are held by a lock member, which lock member has a slot for accommodating at least one end of the strap, a bore disposed transversely to the slot and a pin for penetrating through the bore, the slot and the end or ends of the strap situated therein and the appliance having a retaining device for the lock member, a piston ram for the pin and a cutting device for cutting off any projecting strap ends.
  • An object of the present invention is to provide an appliance, in which the piston ram and cutting device can be actuated together.
  • This object of the invention is achieved in that the piston ram and the cutting device are joined together to perform a common motion, the spatial arrangement being such that the cutting device does not cut off the strap ends to be cut through, until the piston ram has pushed the pin so far forward, that the strap ends are secured in the lock men member.
  • the cutting device forms in the rest position a rear check member for the lock member, whereby the cutting device and the piston ram arranged to move separately have interacting check members, which in the rest position are removed from one another and do not meet one another until the piston ram connected with the implement control has covered a given path.
  • FIGS. 1 to 3 each show a partial longitudinal section through the locking devices of an appliance in different stages of operation
  • FIG. 1' shows an appliance for closing the lock member and for cutting off the projecting strap ends, in which for both procedures only one actuation of the appliance is necessary.
  • the appliance body 201 has a face plate 202, which has an aperture 203 as a holder for a lock member 204 to be worked on.
  • the lock members has a slot 204a into which strap ends 205 and 206 to be fastened are inserted.
  • the appliance includes a lever 207 to be actuated directly by the hand lever, which lever carries a piston ram 208, andalso a further lever 209, which is supported independently of the lever 207 and carries a cutting device 210. Bothlevers are biased by spring.
  • the lever 209 In the lowest position of the lever 209, which is determined by a stop member 212, the cutter 210 represents a rear abutment for the lock member 204.
  • the construction of the lock holder is simplified by this.
  • the levers 207 and 209 have stop faces at 213 and 214, which are separated from each other in the rest position, and do not interact until the lever 207 has covered a given distance. After this distance has been covered the lever 209 is entrained by the lever 207 for further movement.
  • the device works in the following way:
  • the locking pin 215 is rammed into the bore 204b in the lock member 204 and clamps the strap ends 205, 206 so far into this, that it cannot easily slip out again.
  • the stop faces 213, 214 meet each other and the levers 207 and 209 now move together upwards into the position in FIG. 3, in which the locking pin 215 has reached its final position in the lock member and is secured therein by deformation, while the strap ends 205, 206 are cut off.
  • a strap whose ends are held by a lock member having a slot for accommodating at least one end of a strap, a bore disposed transversely to said slot and a pin for penetrating through said bore and said slot to clamp the end or ends of the strap, said appliance comprising a. a retaining device for said lock member; b. a piston ram for moving said pin; and c. a cutting device movable from a rest position to a working position for cutting off any projecting strap ends; the improvement that; d. said piston ram and said cutting device are joined together to perform a common motion, and e.
  • An appliance as claimed in claim 1 further comprising; a. means mounting said cutting device and said piston ram for separate movement; and b. interacting stop members on said cutting device and said piston ram, said stop members being removed from one another when the parts are in the rest position, and being positioned to meet each other when the piston ram has covered a determined path of movement. 3. An appliance as claimed in claim 1, wherein said cutting device in said rest position forms a rear stop member for said lock member.
