  • FIG. 1 illustrates an arrangement knownin the prior art wherein nails or pins are simply driven in a stripping board which in turn is connected to a stripping frame so that as the machine operator changes form one job run to another, the entire board must be changed to alter the waste removal pattern of the stripper as desired.
  • FIG. 2 illustrates a well-known form of stripping unit wherein stripping pins are bolted in a desired position in the frame or grid in accordance with the desired waste stripping pattern for any job run.
  • FIG. 3 illustrates a preformed grid of the type presently in use with devices of the character shown in FIG. 2 and shows both prior art bolted stripping pins as well as those constructed in accordance with this invention mounted on the grid.

It will become apparent that the stripping pin assembly of this invention and the prior art arrangement of FIG. 2 as well may each be used in conjunction with either type of grid shown in FIGS. 3 and 4 as well as with a solid drilled board or frame such as a plexiglass sheet as well.

  • At least one dimension of the combined stripping pin and stripping pin block is small enough to permit the stripping pin and stripping pin block to be inserted into one of the grid slots 5 from the top and that at least one common dimension of both the sleeve 17 and the stripping pin block are greater than the slot width in one rotated position of the stripping pin assembly.
  • the neck 14 has no cross-sectional dimension greater than the width of the slot 5.
  • the lengths of the lever arm 18 in relation to the length of leg 15 is such that when the lever arm 21 is rotated from the position illustrated in FIG. to a position aligning the pivots 19, 23 and 22, the distance between the base of the sleeve 17 and the upper surface of the stripping pin block 13 will tend to be just slightly less than the thickness of the frame or grid 4.
  • the stripping pin and block are inserted into a slot and the entire stripping pin assembly is then rotated so that portions of the stripping pin block and sleeve each traverse and overlap the slot.
  • the lever arm 21 is then rotated through a counterclockwise motion as viewed in FIG. 5 and through this action, the sell sleeve 17 and stripping pin block sandwich the grid or frame 4 between them.
  • the pivots 19, 22, 23 can actually be brought into alignment with one another due to the elastic' strain on the various interconnected parts.
  • the parts are so dimensioned that the lever arm 18 can actually pass through an over-center" position from that wherein the pivots 19, 22, 23 are aligned.
  • the stripping pin assembly is illustrated from the same side with the slotbearing frame 4 being rotated through 90. It will be understood by those skilled in this art that in practice, of course, the grid or frame 4 does not rotate.
  • the stripping pin assembly is itself rotated after the stripping pin and stripping pin block have been inserted into a slot.
  • stripping pin block 13 could be substituted for the stripping pin block 13 and that the stripping member may comprise simply a block itself without any pin.
  • the stripping member it is only necessary that the stripping member be sufficiently small in one dimension to permit its insertion through a slot 5 and sufficiently large in another dimension to permit it (as well as the sleeve 17) to traverse the slot 5 in a rotated position of the stripping pin assembly to permit clamping of the stripping pin assembly on the frame or grid 4.

  • a spring pin 33 is provided which extends outwardly from the leg 26 and is movable within an aperture 33 formed in the sleeve 31.
  • the aperture 33 is, of course, large enough to permit the relative axial movement between the sleeve 31 and leg 26 which will accompany rotation of the lever arm 31.

  • Leverage means interconnecting said clamping member with said extension element whereby topermit said stripping member and clamping member to be forced tightly against opposed faces of said frame to fixedly mount said stripping member on said frame.
  • a stripping member assembly constructed in accordance with claim 3 wherein said clamping member comprises a sleeve surrounding said extension element to guide said extension element for rectilinear movement within the said sleeve.
  • a stripping member assembly constructed in accordance with claim 3 wherein said leverage means comprises:
  • a stripping member assembly constructed in accordance with claim 5 wherein; the parts are so dimensioned that said clamping member and stripping member clamp frame tightly between them by means including the elasticity of the parts with claim 6 wherein said second lever arm is permitted a limited degree of movement to lock said second lever arm in position with the said pivots nearly aligned.
