FIG. 8
INV NTOR ALFON$ STEFAN wojcnvskl M WM ATTORNEY Patented April 11, 1972 6 Sheets-Sheet 5 ALFo/vs STEFAN XI HE IWSKI BY M *4 ATTORNEYS Patented A ril 11, 1972 6 Sheets-Sheet 6 INvENT R ALFONS STEFAN WOJCINS 1 ATTORNEY GUNBELT The invention relates to a rapidly detachable holding device for an implement, particularly a weapon, to be carried in diagonal position on the upper part of the body, by means of a sling arrangement, with at least one strap shackle, or the like, to which the holding device-is attached.
There are already known sling arrangements for rifles and other weapons, by means of which the weapon may be carried, in oblique position, over the upper part of the body, so that the muzzle of the firearm comes to lie at the shoulder. When the weapon was to be used, it could then be detached from the sling arrangement, at least by its front portion, so that its muzzle could be swivelled forward.
It is the purpose of the invention to provide a holding device 1 which may be detached extremely rapidly, so that the weapon,
or correspondingly another implement, may be detached, at least partly, within a very short time, from the sling arrangement and be brought from the carrying position into the position of use. This possibility meets an urgent wish of all those persons who carry, particularly, weapons; however, it may be of importance also for other implements than weapons, for which a rapid change from the position of transport to that of use is imperative.
According to the invention, this purpose may be reached particularly easily by means of a, preferably, plate-shaped part which is inserted into the strap shackle, or the like, and onto which a locking member made, preferably, of a flexible material, may be slid up, which serves to maintain the part in the inserted position on the strap shackle, or the like, and which is provided with a flange which does not pass through the strap shackle, to which a suspending member is joined which, when the implement is suspended, serves for the engaging of the implement with a fastening arrangement provided on the strap arrangement.
The invention will be further explained, by way of example,
as illustrated in the attached drawings.
FIG. 1 shows a sling arrangement which is suitable, particularly, for a sporting-gun.
FIG. 2 shows one part of the sling arrangement, with a rapidly detachable holding device according to the invention.
FIG. 3 shows the same part of the sling arrangement in top view.
FIG. 4 shows another example of a holding device according to the invention, taken apart.
FIG. 5 shows the same holding device in assembled condition.
FIG. 6 shows the sling arrangement on the upper part of the body of a person, seen from the front, and
FIG. 7 is the same arrangement as in FIG. 6 seen from behind.
FIG. 8 shows another sling arrangement which is suitable particularly for carrying a machine-pistol or a similar weapon.
FIG. 9 shows an example of a holding device according to the invention, which is suitable for the arrangement of FIG. 8.
FIG. 10 shows part thereof, seen in cross-section through the plane X X ofFlG. 9.
FIG. 11 shows the last mentioned sling arrangement over the upper body of a person, together with a weapon.
FIG. 12 shows the same, without weapon.
According to FIG. 1, the sling arrangement, which may serve, for example, for carrying a sporting-gun, or the like, consists of a first strap 1, the end 2 of which is provided with a buckle 3. The other end 4, which is wider, is provided with a hole 6 having rim reinforcement 5, a second strap 7 having punched holes for engaging in the buckle 3, which is secured by rivets 8 to the end 4 of the strap 1, in oblique position. There is a third strap 9 which is secured to the strap 1 by means of the rivets 8 and two further rivets, and which has a projecting extremity l0, and of a fourth strap 11 which is arranged displaceably on the strap 1 by means of a shackle 12. The strap 11 is provided with a number of slots 13 provided with a hole at one end to receive a two-head pin 14. The formation of the end 4 of the strap 1 is shown in detail in FIGS. 2
and 3, from which it may be seen that below the rivet 8, the end 4 of the strap 1, and the strap 9 fonn two separable straps. FIGS. 2 and 3 show the socket arrangement 15, a part which belongs to the holding device according to the invention.
The socket arrangement 15 consists of a socket 16 provided with a bottom and riveted to the strap 9 through a flange 17 (FIG. 3), and of a slotted socket 18 (FIG. 2) arranged therein, the jacket 19 of which is slotted in axial direction, and is provided at its outer end with a spherical widening 20 and closed at its other end by a bottom 21. By means of a rivet 22, which passes through the bottom of the socket 16, the bottom 21 is connected to a grasping socket 23 provided outside of the socket 16. A compression spring 24 presses the slotted socket 18 toward the open end of the socket 16 which, at this point, is provided with a stop rim 25, toward which the spherical widening 20 comes to lie under the pressure of the spring 24.
The holding device according to the invention, with its ballended pin arrangement 26, as also shown in FIGS. 2 and 3, is best seen in FIGS. 4 and 5. According to these figures, the ball-ended pin arrangement 26 consists of a round pin 28, with a ball 27 at its end, and of a plate-shaped part 29, which are separated from each other by a flange 30 and, together, form a ball-ended pin arrangement 31, as well as of a socket forming a locking member 32, fitting the plate 29 and made of flexible material, for example rubber or plastic material.
FIGS. 4 and 5 show a socket arrangement 33 which represents an alternative to the socket arrangement 15 of FIGS. 2 and 3. The socket arrangement 33 consists of a socket made of flexible material, into which the ball 27 engages. Its outside shape is approximately that of a plate; it may either be riveted to the strap 9, in the same manner as the socket arrangement 15, by means of holes 34, or it needs no fastening at all and may be used in another manner, as described later on.
FIG. 8 illustrates another sling arrangement for use in connection with a machine-pistol. The same as the afore described sling arrangement, it consists of a first strap 35, the end 36 of which is provided with a hole 38 with rim reinforcement 37, furthermore with a second and a third strap 39 and 40, which are fastened by rivets 41 to the strap 35 in the same manner as the straps 7 and 9 of FIG. 1 to the strap 1. However, contrary to the first described sling arrangement, the sling arrangement according to FIG. 8 lacks the fourth strap, and the second strap 39, in this case, is provided with two riveted on strap shackles 42 and 43 and with the loop 45 between the strap shackle 43 and the end of the strap 39 that carries the buckle 44. The other end 46 of the strap 35 is provided with holes to engage into the buckle 44.
The holding device for the front end of the weapon, also in this case, consists of a socket arrangement 15 or 33, which corresponds entirely to the first one described, and, furthermore, of a fastening arrangement 26, according to FIGS. 4 and 5, and described hereinabove. For the rear end of the weapon another embodiment of a fastening arrangement (FIG. 9) is provided. This arrangement 52 is particularly usable in machine pistols and it will be described later on.
As it may be seen from FIG. 6, the sling arrangement according to FIGS. 1 to 3, which is designed for a sporting-gun, is carried around the upper part of the body, so that the end 4 of the strap 1, with the "hole 6 and the strap 9, hangs down from the left shoulder, in front of the chest, while the other end 2 of the strap, which comes to lie under the right arm, is connected to the strap 7 by means of the buckle 3. At the right side of the chest, the strap 11 hangs down. Its lower end is connected to the rear strap shackle 55 which is fastened to the butt of the weapon 54, whereby the strap end passes through the shackle-and is attached to the two-head pin 14, thus forming a loop.
On the front strap shackle 56, which is a part of all ordinary guns and mounted thereon, the ball-ended pin arrangement 31 is fastened in such a manner that its plate 29 with the ball 27, directed rearward, is passed through the strap shackle, whereupon the flexible locking member 32 is put over the plate 29 (compare FIG. 5), so that the ball-ended pin arrangement is maintained with the strap shackle and lies with this latter between the flange 30 and the locking member 32. When hanging the weapon on, the pin 27, 28 of the ball-ended pin arrangement 31 is passed through the hole 6 in the strap 1. In many cases, such a hanging on is sufficient. However, it is also possible to obtain a locking of the ball-ended pin arrangement, by inserting the ball 27 into the socket arrangement or 33 which, as mentioned, may be fastened to the sling arrangement or, particularly with the socket arrangement 33, may be independent. FIG. 2 shows how the ball 27 is maintained in the socket arrangement 15. It shows how the slotted socket 18 is pressed by the spring 24 toward the stop rim 25 in such a manner that, by wedge effect, the slotted socket widening is pressed toward the ball 27 of the ball-ended pin arrangement. To undo the lock, the grabbing socket and, therewith, the slotted socket 18 are drawn downward, so that this latter may relax flexibly. With the insertion, the ball 27 is pressed toward the opening of the slotted socket 18, whereby this latter is pressed downward, off the stop rim 25, and may spread, so that the ball can enter the widening of the slotted socket. The socket arrangement 33 acts as a notch locking, in that its flexible material is elastically deformed when the ball 27 is inserted or removed.
If the weapon is to be carried hanging from the left shoulder to the right hip, as illustrated in FIG. 6, the ball-ended pin arrangement 31 is detached from the socket arrangement, as described, whereupon the pin 27, 28 may be hooked off the hole 6 and the muzzle of the weapon swivelled forward, which can be done extremely fast. If there is no socket arrangement, the pin may be hooked directly off the hole. Should the weapon be dropped when the holding device is released, it would nevertheless hang on to the sling arrangement by means of the strap 11. FIG. 7 shows how the sling arrangement may furthermore be used for the carrying of a binocular 57, the straps 58 of which are drawn through the slots 59 of the strap 1 (compare FIG. 1).
The sling arrangement shown in FIG. 8, which serves for the carrying of a machine-pistol 60, is applied on the body of the person carrying it, according to FIGS. 11 and 12. It largely corresponds to the manner of carrying as shown in FIG. 6. FIG. 11 shows the carrying of the weapon if an ammunition wallet is used. Also, in this case, a ball-ended pin arrangement 31, as described, is fastened to the front strap shackle 66a of the weapon. However, the rear end of the weapon is fastened to the sling arrangement, in that a fastening element 52, ac-
cording to FIG. 9, which is attached to the a rear strap shackle 66b of the weapon in the same way as the arrangement 31, is inserted by its hook 53 into a shackle 43 (FIG. 12) provided on the sling arrangement, or into a shackle 64 applied on the front side of the right cartridge pouch 62, or if the loading of the punch by the weight of the weapon is not desirable on a special piece of leather 63, which is attached to the strap behind the pouch. The pouch or the piece of leather 63 may be completed by further similar shackles for the adjustment to the carrying height. If the weapon is carried in the last mentioned manner, it is detached both from the upper and the lower suspending points when being used. To prevent the weapon from falling to the ground, in case it should fall from the hand, it is fastened to the carrier by means of a strap 65, whereby the strap 65 is fastened to the weapon by means of a spring hook, hooked around the rear strap shackle 66b. The part of the hook which passes around the shackle will rest in the recesses 49 and 50 (FIGS. 9, 10) in locking member and the fastening element 52 respectively. At certain weapons the strap shackle is attached to the weapon by means of a short pin (see the circular element at the strap shackle 66b in FIG. 9) provided with a radial hole in which the shackle rests. To leave space for this pin the locking member and the fastening element 52 are provided with recesses 48 and 51 respectively. Of course, these recesses may also be provided for a fastening arrangement 26 according to FIGS. 4 and 5 if the front shackle 56 is attached to the weapon b means of a in of said type. With the use of the hanging mac ne-pistol, t e holding devices according to the invention are detached by hooking off, as described, so that the weapon may be swivelled forward.
The embodiments of the invention in which an exclusive property or privilege is claimed are defined as follows:
