It is essential in the processing of these products to obtain a hermetic closure of the container after it has been filled with the food product in order to avoid the harmful effect of the ambient air. For this purpose various closure methods have been used in order to attempt in all cases a perfect isolation from the surrounding air.
  • the covers are customarily of a different material than that of the container, covers made from a thin aluminum sheet being frequently employed.
  • It is yet still another object of the present invention to provide an apparatus for sealing containers comprising a hollow, cylindrical body having electric heating resistors therein and having a loweredge, the surface of which coincides with that of an annular rim to be sealed.
