Definitions
- ABSTRACT A convector hood for heating and/or cooling convectors is disclosed wherein two parallel side walls are clamped together, in spaced relation to each -other, by means of U-shaped stirrups.
- the upper and lower longitudinal edges of the side walls are each bent over on the inside to form a groove of U-shaped cross section, and the free ends of the two legs of each U-shaped stirrup are inserted in the lower grooves of the two side walls whilst projections at the upper ends of these legs project into the upper grooves.
- the two side walls are held together without the use of additional fastening means such as rivets or screws, and at the same time the cross pieces of the U-shaped stirrups can serve for supporting the hood on a convector.
- the free sides of the upper grooves may be bent over inwards perpendicularly to the side walls for supporting a covering grid and cover parts, which cover parts may be formed on end walls inse'rtable between the side walls. Openings may be provided in the cover part and/or in the end wall for receiving a pipe or a regulating valve projecting from the convector.
- This invention relates to a convector hood having a housing open underneath and closed at the top by the provision of a grid.
- a convector hood comprises a housing the upper and lower longitudinal edges of the side walls of which are bent over on the inside thus forming a groove of a U-shaped cross section and U-shaped stirrups are provided the legs of which are inserted with the free ends in the lower grooves whilst projections at the upper ends of the legs project into the upper grooves.
- FIG. 1 shows a cross section through a convector hood
- FIG. 2 shows a section on line II-II in FIG. 1 of one end of the convector hood
- FIG. 3 is a plan ofFIG. 2
- FIG. 4 shows a cover part for the upper side of the hood
- FIG. 5 is a perspective view of the hood and FIG. 6 shows a perspective an end wall of the convector hood.
- the convector cover hood has side walls 1 made of sheet metal which are bent over at the upper and lower longitudinal edges on the inside to form grooves 2 and 3-respectively which are U-shaped in cross section.
- the edge 4 of the upper grooves 2 is bent inwards perpendicular to the side wall.
- U-shaped stirrups are provided which have two sides or legs 5 and the cross piece 6 as well as upwardly directed projections 7.
- cross piece 6 holds the two side walls 1 spaced apart from one another it serves at the same time for supporting the hood on a convector heater, not shown.
- the end walls (FIGS. 2, 3 and 6) have edge parts 9, 10 and 11 running perpendicularly to a middle part 8.
- the upper edge part or cover part 10 also carries at the front end a part 12 projecting vertically downwards.
- edge parts 10 and 11 are provided at the ends with cut out portions 13 and 14 (FIG. 6) which are so dimensioned that the edge parts of the side walls formed into the grooves 2 and 3 fit into the cutout portions 13 and 14 respectively.
- the part 12 of the cover part 10 lies on the edges 4 when the edge parts 9 are inserted fitting tightly between the side walls 1.
- the middle part 8 of the end wall and a part of the edge parts 10 and 11 may have a cut out portion 15 (FIG. 3 and 6) which allows the end wall to be attached even when a pipe from the convector projects upwards through the hood.
- a separate cover part consisting of a plate 16 (FIG. 4) with a cut out portion 15 can be placed between the side walls 1 on the edges 4.
- the cut out portion 15 may also serve as a passage for the regulating valve of the convector.
- the grating consists of longitudinal bars 17 and cross bars 18 connecting same. This grating may be divided in the longitudinal direction according to the length of the hood.
- the side walls 1 are made in specified manufactured lengths and cut according to the different convector lengths or also lengthened by extension pieces. In the latter case at the abutting place a U-shaped stirrup is inserted in the grooves 2 and 3 so as to overlap half way across the abutting pieces.
- the convector hood described may be used as cover for heating or refrigeration (air condition) convectors.
- a convector hood comprising: a housing having two parallel side walls, the top and bottom edges of each of said side walls being bent over to form a U- shaped groove at the top and bottom of said side walls; a plurality of U-shaped stirrups having a pair of spaced legs, the free end of each of said legs being positioned in the groove at the bottom of each of said side walls, each of said U-shaped stirrups having a projection which extends each of said legs beyond the bottom of the U, the free end of each of said projections being positioned in the groove at the top of each of said side walls, whereby the side walls are held in a spaced relationship by said stirrups; and a grid, said grid being positioned between said side walls adjacent the top thereof.
- a convector hood according to claim 1 wherein the edges of the free sides of said U-shaped grooves at the top are bent over inwards perpendicularly to said side walls.
- a convector hood according to claim 2 wherein cover parts are provided for insertion between said U- shaped grooves at the top of said side walls with the edges of said cover parts bent downwards for supporting contact on said edges bent over inwards perpendicularly to said side walls.
- a convector hood according to claim 1, wherein end walls are provided for closing the ends of said hood which are inserted and held between said side walls by means of edges bent perpendicularly to a middle part and which have on the upper side a cover part which runs flush with said U-shaped grooves at the top of said side walls.
