Definitions
- the aim of the invention is to provide a machine of simple design to manufacture adhesive binder covers at an advantageous price, by means of which large numbers of adhesive binder covers can be produced in a short time.
- This aim is achieved in accordance with the invention by having two bearer shafts on the inlet of a pair of feed rollers, each of which shafts takes a magazine roll, and at least one further bearer shaft likewise lying in front of the pair of pressure rollers in the region of the middle slit of the said bearer shafts, which shaft takes a roll of adhesive strip, and a transverse cutting device lying beyond the pair of feed rollers for the strips from the magazine rollers stuck together at a separation by the adhesive strip.
- the protective strip bearer shaft can be displaced transverse to the direction of run through.
- An essential feature of the invention is that several adhesive strip bearer shafts are combined together preferably in a star-shaped arrangement to form a single magazine.
- the deflecting roller should be in the form of a toothed roller.
- a guide channel is arranged between the adhesive strip roll and the deflecting roller to support the adhesive strip from below.
- the protective strip bearer shaft to be followed by a device for completely cutting or perforating the protective strip over its length and/or folding it, which device lies however on the inlet in front of the first pair of pressure rollers.
- the adhesive binder covers can be produced in a continuous strip which is subsequently cut with the transverse cutting device to produce covers of the desired size.
- the cover rolls preferably lie on the inlet side of a pair of pressure rollers on two bearer shafts lying one beside the other. These shafts are then easily accessible to operating personnel so that for example it is simple to slide on a new magazine roll.
- the cover strips and adhesive strip run together through a pair of pressure rollers where the adhesive strip is stuck to the cover strip.
- the adhesive strip is drawn off from a roll, the bearer shaft for which preferably lies in the central slit of the bearer shafts for the magazine rolls, the roll likewise being arranged in front of the pair of pressure rollers.
- a transverse cutting device Arranged beyond this pair of pressure rollers is a transverse cutting device which cuts the cover strips leaving the pressure roller stuck together at a sep aration by the adhesive strip into the desired lengths. If the adhesive strip is to be covered in the middle or if the adhesive binder cover is to be used as a cover, for example for cheques, then it is advantageous to provide an inside protective sheet in the binder. For this purpose all that is required is a further bearer shaft for a roll of protective strip lying above the run in plane of the cover strips and likewise arranged in the region of the abovementioned central gap. This bearer shaft can be displaced transverse to the feed direction to adapt to the region of the adhesive strip left free.
- the adhesive strip drawn olf from the roll of adhesive strip is preferably deflected by a deflector roller lying in front of the pair of pressure rollers in the open angle of the adhesive strip. Since this deflector roller is in the form of a toothed roller, it only makes point contacts with the adhesive strip.
- the cover strips have been stuck by the adhesive strip, the resultant strip is cut in the transverse cutting device, the binder covers then falling onto a bearing surface underneath the transverse cutting device.
- a further pair of pressure rollers arranged between the inlet side pair of pressure rollers and the transverse cutting device can be set for example to a greater pressure so as to stick the strips even more firmly.
- a cutting and/or folding device arranged in front of the inlet side pair of pressure rollers and the roll of protective strip the latter can be completely out or perforated or folded to the desired length depending on the use to which the binder covers are to be put.
- FIG. 1 a diagrammatic side elevation of the machine in accordance with the invention
- FIG. 2 a plan view of the machine
- FIG. 3 a section along the line A-B in FIG. 2 but on a large scale
- FIG. 4 a perspective view of a binder cover with an inserted stack of sheets consisting of separate sheets with an associated protective sheet
- FIG. 5 a cross-section through the back of the cover in FIG. 4,
- FIG. 6 a similar section to that in FIG. 5 but with the separate sheets partially removed
- FIG. 7 a section in the region of the back of a cover serving as a letter file with a protective strip cut into sections.
- the machine has a body 1 followed by a transverse cutting device 2 arranged in a casing 1'.
- a member 3 of the framework of the machine carries on the inlet side of the bearings 4 and 5 the bearer shafts 6 and 7 which each take a magazine roll 8 and 9 respectively.
- the bearings 4 and 5 open upwards so that, the bearer shafts 6 and 7 can be inserted from above.
- the off-set magazine rolls 8 and 9 arranged at a separation from one another forming a central gap M and followed by a pair of deflector rollers 10 and a pair of pressure rollers 11.
- a starp-shaped formation of bearer shafts 14 for rolls of adhesive strip 15 combined together to form a single magazine 13 mounted on a strut 12 of the machine body 1 feeding into the pair of pressure rollers.
- This magazine can be rotated in steps about the axle 16 on the strut 12.
- a deflector roller 17 in the form of a toothed roller arranged on the inlet side beneath the pair of pressure rollers 11.
- This deflector roller 17 is arranged in the open angle of deflection of the adhesive strip 15 and only makes point contacts with the adhesive strip 15.
- the adhesive strip 15 drawn ofl from the roll of adhesive strip 15 passes through a guide channel 18 supporting it from below which extends between the roll of adhesive strip 15 and the deflector roller 17.
- a guide channel 18 supporting it from below which extends between the roll of adhesive strip 15 and the deflector roller 17.
- a bearer shaft for taking a roll of protective strip 22 To adapt to the adhesive strip 15' the bearer shaft 20 for the protective strip can be displaced transverse to the feed direction x in the direction of the double arrow y.
- the protective strip 22' can be completely cut or perforated lengthwise by means of a cutting and/or folding device 23 arranged after the bearer shaft 20 for the roll of protective strip but before the pair of pressure rollers 11.
- This device 23 is on a double lever 25 mounted to swing about the axis 24, the shorter arm 25' of which has a pressure roller 26 pressing from above on the protective strip 22'.
- This pressure roller 26 precedes a further pair of pressure rollers 27 which lies between the first-mentioned pair of pressure rollers 11 and the transverse cutting device 2.
- This pair of pressure rollers 27 is driven by a motor 28 through a belt which in turn by a belt is driven in synchronism with the deflector roller 17. Since the reflector roller 17 is in the form of a toothed roller the adhesive strip 15 is drawn off well from the roll of adhesive strip 15.
- Binder covers 31 are manufactured with this machine in the following way: The ends of the cover rolls are fed over the pair of deflector rollers 20 into the pair of pressure rollers 11 together with the end of the adhesive strip, the direction of which is altered by the deflector roller 17 and the guide 19.
- a protective strip 22 is drawn off from the roll 22 and runs through the pairs of pressure rollers 11, 27 together with the other strips 8', 9' and 15. As it can be displaced sidewards the bearer shaft 20 for the roll of protective strip can be adjusted in such a way that the protective strip 22' only covers a narrow strip of the adhesive strip 15'. After cutting in the transverse cutting device 2 the section of protective strip 22" forms the inside protective sheet. The latter can have fold lines 32, to produce which the protective strip 22' runs through the cutting and/or folding device 23 arranged in front of the pair of pressure rollers 11.
- the inside protective sheet formed by the section of protective strip 22 is preferably provided over an area with a layer 33 of adhesive material.
- the inside protective sheet lies with this layer of adhesive material against the self-adhesive layer 35 of the section of adhesive 15" forming the back strip, see FIG. 6. This prevents the section of self-adhesive strip left free by the removal of the sheets 34 from sticking to the respective uppermost individual sheet 34.
- the protective strip 22' is cut in the cutting and/or folding device 23 over its length, for example into separate longitudinal strips 36, which covers the free section of adhesive strip between the cover strips 8' and 9'.
- One or more of these longitudinal strips 36 can then be removed from the complete binder 31 as required so that the respective stack of sheets can be stuck with its rear edge to the now freed self-adhesive layer of the back strip formed by the section of adhesive strip 15".
- the longitudinal strips 36 are also provided on the side towards the back strip with a layer of adhesive so that the strips can easily be pulled off.
