UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JACOB FALKENBER-G, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
SHIRT.
$PECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 377,149, dated January 31, 1888.
Application filed September 21, 1887. Serial No. 250,306. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JACOB FALKENBERG, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Shirt, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention consists in the combination, with a shirt-body, of a front piece made of a blank of suitable form stitched to the shirt by seams between the center of the form-piece and its side edges to form two flies adapted to be folded to form a single, or opened out to form a double, breasted front, as hereinafter fully described and claimed- Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, inwhich similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure l is a front elevation of a shirt made in accordance with my invention, with the front folded to form asocalled single breast. Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the front spread out to form a double breast, and Fig. 3 shows the blank or pattern of the front folding piece.
The body A of the shirt may be of the usual or any approved construction, with a double row of buttons, at a, at the breast. To the front of the shirt, between the rows of buttons a, is stitched the front piece, B, which forms two flies, B B. The said front piece is cut in the form shown in Fig. 3, and is, by preference, secured to the shirt by three rows of stitching, 0 and 0, the latter being along or near the edge of the front placket. The flies B each constitute about one-quarter of the entire Width of the front piece, B, and are free to fold so that their free edges meet in the front, as shown in Fig. 1, to form a single breast; or they may be spread out, as shown in Fig. 2, to form a double breast. The said front piece, B, may be of plain or of any fancy outline or shape to suit the taste, and it is provided near its edges with rows of buttons b b, to receive the loops 0, and with rows of button-holes e e, to receive the buttons a,- or the holes 0 may be multiplied to adapt lacing to be used in place of the loops 0 when it is worn as a singlebreasted front.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination, with the shirt-body, of the front piece, B, made of a single piece or blank,
stitched to the shirt-front by seams c c, be tween the center of the said front piece and its side edges and equidistant from the edges, to form the two flies B B, adapted to fold in the manner and for the purposes described.
