HENRY HEITMANN, OF NEV ROCHELLE, NEV YORK.
Nl OT O R SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 395,232, dated December 25, 1888.
Application filed eptemher l5, 1888. Serial No. 285,504. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HENRY IAIEITMANN, of New Rochelle, lestchester county, Siate of New York, have invented mi Improved Motor, of which the following' is a specification.
This invention relattee` to :tn improved inotor especially applicable for revolving' the propellerl of a bont; lout the motor may also be applied for other purposes-such. ne propelling' a wagon-or it may be used as a- Stritionary machine.
The invention consists in the various [ezitures of improvement more fully pointed out in the claims.
In the nccoinpmiying drawings, Figure l ie a longitudinal section of a bont provided with in v improved motor, showing' the latter in side view. Fig'. 2 is a front view, and Fig. 3 a. rear view', of the motor. Fig'. JC is n` detail perspective view ot' the rock-Shaft.
The letter A represente L boat having the propeller-Shaft o. This shaft passes through the two uprighte` l) l), which are connected on top by zt cross-piece, c. Between the uprights l) b the Shztlt d carries e. fly-wheel, u. In order to revolve the Shetlt (t, I pivot to :1. pin, (I, projecting' from one of' the uljn'ig'hts l), n tootlever, e, to each end ol' which a treadle, j', is pivoted. One ol the pivotejAl of lever` e connects one end oli' n linlgg, to the foot-lever@7 the other end of which link is pivoted to :L crank, 7L, ol" n rock-Shaft, if, resting in the upA rights b l). The other end of shaflt 'i hns the crank connected hy connecting-rod with crank fm on shnflt (t. The crank 71., ne well ne the crztnk of the shaft t', is longer than the crank m of shaft o., and both crmiks hj project from their shaft /L' et a different ongle.
'n is the Seat of the operator who bears with his feet upon treadles f. The alternate rais- .ing and depression of the treadles will oscillate the lever e, and the link g will cause the crmik 71 to move in the are of the circle indi cated by dotted lines in Fig'. 2. Thus the rock-Shaft will impart e similar motion to cranky', and the latter will through rod la revolve the crank m, and consequently the shaft a. The :Hy-wheel o carries the crank m over its dead-center. The crank j, being longer than the crank m and moving only in the are of n circle, prevents said crank from ever being at its deed-center, while the 'liv-wheel ce carries the crank m over its dead-center. The footllever e may also be provided witha handbar, e.
lVhat I claim iel. The combination of pivoted betr e with link g, rock-Shaft e', l'iztving cranks 7i j, and with connecting-rod k, crank myshaft Ct, and liv-wheel o', Substantially as Specilied.
The combination of pivoted loer c, having` pivoted treedles f, with the link g, connected to pivot f', and with the rock-Shaft t', having' cranks hj, and with connecting-rod 1.,', and crank m., Shaft (t, an d fly-wheel a', suhsta-ntizrlly as Specified.
3. The combination of pivoted har e with the link g, pivoted thereto7 and with a roek- Shnft, l', lmving a. pair of cranks, tj, and with the revolving' Shaft u., having' crank m, that is connected to crank 7' hy connecting-rod lc, an d with tlywheel (d, all bein so constructed that the cranksj h are longer than crank m, substantially :is specified.
HENRY HEITMANN.
