Description
(N Model.) i I A. E. BELLER. GMSTALIZING FRAME. No. 400,539. Patented Apr. 2, 1889-.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE. I
ALBERT E. BELLER, OF OGDEN CITY, UTAII-TERRITORY.
CRYSTALLIZ'ING-FRAIVI E.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 400,539, dated April 2, 1889. Application filed vlrpri 14, 1888. Serial No. 270,612. (No model.)
T all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT E. BELLER, of Ogden City, in the county of Weber and Territoryof Utah, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Crystallizing-Fralnes, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention has for its object the production `ofuframes for monograms, inottoes, and various designs, including signs, which have their surfaces incased by crystals to give a bold, ornamental, and eiective appearance; andthe invention consists in a special construction of said frames, and of preparing them for retention ofthe crystals, and in the article produced, substantially as herein described, and pointed out in the claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the igures.
Figure l represents a face View of a crystallizing-frame embodying my invention in the course of construction or before applying thel crystals, and Fig. A2 is a similar view of said frame after the crystals have been applied.
The frame, which may be of any suitable shape, size, and design, according to the monogram, motto, or other characters it is intended to display, is an open or skeleton one and formed ofpwire, wood, or other suitable strips,
b, arranged to inclose or support and form the figures or characters of the design, which is `here represented by the letters B -R B, said wires or strips conformingin arrangement and numbers to the design required to be produced. These several Wires or strips, or, rather, such portions of them as are intended to be incased by crystals c-includin g, for instance,
the outer marginal portions of the frame and the letters or characters formed therein-are then covered or have wrapped around them any suitable soft and iieXible or fibrous material, (l, which will serve the purpose of causing the crystals to adhere thereto. The Whole frame thus suitably covered where the crystals are designed to form and adhere is then steeped in any suitable crystallizing solution, such as a solution of salt, alum, or other cr-ystalliz'ing material, and allowed to remain therein till a sufficient deposit of crystals has been lmade upon the covered portions of the skeleton frame, the uncovered portions of which are left bare by reason of the non-ai'- ilnity otA the crystals to form on or adhere thereto.
Having thus fully described my invention, I
claim as new and desire to vsecure by Letters Patentl. A crystallized monogram or other like frame consisting of an open frameprovided with the strips b, arranged within the frame to support and form the characters of the design, and crystals applied to the frame and to the design thereof, substantially as described.
2. As an improved article of manufacture, aV crystal-incased monogram or other like frame consisting of an open frame provided with strips b, arranged to support and form the characters of the design, a ibrous covering for the portions of the frame intended to be incased with crystals, and the crystals applied to the said covered portions, as set forth.
ALBERT E. BELLER.
