This'lnvention consists in constructing the ends-box of semi-cylindrical form, withr` rock- -ers attached to it, and also provided with arms on `which adjustable weights or counter .poises are placed, the above parts being also used in connection with a lluted roller placed within the snds box, and all arranged in such a manner that the machine may be operated with the greatest facility, but little manual labor beingr required, andthe clothes operated upon in the most ex'iicient manner.

.To enable those skilled in the art to fully understand and construct my invention, l will proceed to describe it.

Each side-a of thesuds-boxs provided with an arm, g, which extendsupward from the center of its upper part.VA These arms g have each a sliding or adjustable` weight or counterpoise, C, 'fitted' lthe clothes tobe on them.= These weights orwcounterpoises may be so arranged as to be retained by fric-l tion only on the arrn g, or anysuitable catches' or fastenings may. be employed. y

This roller is allowed to turn freely, and its lower partis within a short distance ,of the center` of the bottom' b of the suds-boz'c. The journals of the roller-shaft h are allowed to rise tlc; a certain extentin their bearings in order to `adinit of a vertical play or movement of the roller D, and, it' necessary, springs may vrestv upon the journals o f said shaft in order to prevent the roller. from rising too readily.
