Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MoRGAN F. MARTIN, OF BRUNswIoK, GEORGIA.
LINIMEINT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 403,121, dated May 14, 1889.
Application filed Megch 29, 1888. Serial No. 268,869. (No specimens.)
T0 at whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MORGAN F. MARTIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brunswick, in the county of Glynn and State of Georgia, have invented a new and useful Veterinary Remedy; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appert-ains to make use of the same.
My composition consists of the following ingredients, combined in the proportions stated, viz: turpentine, one (1) quart; kerosene, one-half (t) pint; camphor-gum, two (2) ounces; oil of sassafras, one (1) ounce; oil of peppermint, one (1) ounce; oil of pennyroyal, one (1) ounce; chloroform, one (1) ounce. These ingredients are to be thoroughly mingled by agitation.
The above composition is especially adapted for use in the disease of sheep commonly called rot, and also for the disease in cattle known as hollow horn. It is also valuable as an application for cuts, bruises, burns, and sores, as well as neuralgia and rheumatism and ailments of a kindred nature in both man and beast, giving almost instant relief; but it is more especially intended for the diseases in cattle and sheep (as above described known as rot and hollow horn.
The above composition is to be used principally by external application on the parts affected, and may be used internally for neuralgia and rheumatism.
For rot in sheep, for which it is especially valuable, the mixture is applied to the head, on that part commencing from the lock of the jaws, and across the back of the head and around that part where the horns are located, the mixture to be applied once a day until a cure is effected. For hollow horn in cattle, it is to be applied around the base of the horn and on the upper surface of the head once or twice a day. For rheumatism and neuralgia, apply the mixture with the hand on the parts aiilicted, and if immediate relief is not obtained saturate a piece of flannel cloth and apply thereto. For a cold in the chest, apply the mixture externally on the part afflicted. If accompanied with a cough, take (internally) one drop on a piece of sugar once or twice aday until congestion is removed. For cuts, burns, bruises, &c., apply directly to the afflicted parts.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is
The herein-described composition of matter to be used for the purpose and in the manner as specified, said composition consisting of the following ingredients: turpentine, kerosene, camphor-gum, oil of Sassafras, oil of peppermint, oil of pennyroyal, chloroform, in the proportions specified.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
MORGAN F. lvIARTIN.
