To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, LEOPOLD MAYER, of Stuttgart, Wrtemberg, Germany, a citizen of \Vrtemberg, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Buckles, (for WhichI have received patents, No. 42,570, March 9, 1888, in Germany; No.186,531, dated January 17, 1888, in France, and No. 42,534 and No. 3,873, dated February 26, 1888, in Austria- Hungary,) of which the following is a speciiication.

rllhe object of my invention is to provide a new and improved buckle which is simple in construct-ion, strong, durable, and cheap, and which holds the strap o r band in any desired position, and by means of which the strap can be locked in place and released easily and rapidly.

The invention consists in the construction and combination ot' parts and details, as will be fully described hereinafter, and finally be pointed out in the claim.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is Fig. 2 is a top view of the same, showing part of the strap that it holds. Fig. 3 is a vertical transverse sectional view of part Vof the strap or band held by the same, and Fig. 4 is a vertical transverse sectional view of the buckle.

Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.

The buckle is composed of two sections A and B, made integral ofl spring-wire. The

vlower section B consists of a rectangular frame and the upper section of a U-shaped frame, the shanks of which are parallel with the sides of the frame B. To fasten the strap or band C by means of said buckle, one end of the band is passed over the free shank b of the spring-frame A in such a manner that the free end of the band passes down between said spring-shank b and the side piece d of the bottom frame B and rests upon the main part of the band.

The band is tightened in the following manner: For example, if it is secured to apair of trousers and Vis to be tightened, the part C of the band is pulled to the right, Fig. 3. In case the strap or band is to be loosened the buckle is seized between the thumb and iirst finger and brought into a position about at right angles to the one shown in Fig. 3, and then pulled to the left. The band is now loose between the parts or Shanks d b and b f, respectively, and can easily be adjusted Without being subjected to friction. As the strain on the band increases by certain movements of the body the pressure on the upper part or end C of. the band between the Shanks b and d is increased and the band thus held more securely in the buckle. If the band C is slackened by certain other movements of the body, the upper part will be held securely against the shank d by the spring-shank b,

`and thus the band or strap C is always held in its proper position.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Paten t A buckle composed of two sections of wire in ade integral, the lower section B being made rectangular and the upper section A U -shaped,
